I heard they turned that into a cafe.

I know that the actual Buran and Ptichka shuttles are sitting in hangars
in the Kosmodrome in Khazakstan.

The one in Gorky Park and the one (still?) in Sydney are mockup orbiters.

One of them actually flew, a smaller version of the Buran.

Buran flew, a two orbit mission in 1988. It was a full sized version.
You may be thinking of the BOR series spacecraft flown out of Kapustin
Yar on an SL-8 booster tat landed in the Indian Ocean.

Yep, I did have them confused. I remember seeing a photo of it being
recovered. Buran never flew manned though, did it?

Nope, flew completely on remote control. The second flight would have had
it dock with Mir, also on remote control.

Nope, never flew manned. Igor Volk lead the cosmonaut team that was
scheduled to fly the vehicle but the USSR collapsed before they flew.
Of the group Volk was the only member to fly in space, a visiting
cosmonaut mission to Salyut 7.

Thanks to both responses. I had a feeling that we would have heard
a lot more if it had flown manned.

You are very welcome.

I think you are right. Had we seen the "Wolf Pack" (the name of the
cosmonaut group assigned to fly the thing) we would have heard a lot
more in the popular press. After years of ignoring the story the
professional press finally started paying attention to the project, but
the collapse of the USSR spelled an end to the program.

Probably just as well, the vehicle was, in my opinion, pretty marginal.
I don't think I would have liked to fly it.
