I just don't know what to start a conversation around.

Sunday I went to my friend Susan King's campaign kickoff
party for her push for Matt Gonzalez's seat in San Francisco.
I enjoyed the party, and I took a bunch of pictures, and they
are on my site right now.

I feel funny telling people outside the area about it, even
though it is state of the art Green Politics....

You guys want to see some forwards from insider Green
Party mailing lists? I could bring you up to date on that
stuff...

I tot the free concert in San Jose this afternoon. The
headliner was Three Days Grace, but my favorite song
was the cover of that Kinks song "I'm an ape man"
done by this Boston band named Apollo Sunshine.

I'm hangin in alt.politics.greens, where I get more electioneering (global
warming, hegemony and mayhem) than I can take.
On the subject of JB - "Jello Biafra and the Melvins" record is supposed to
be released October 19, Alternative Tentacles website now claims. No Melvins
mp3s to be found at AT.
Melvins website - http://www.themelvins.net - has been posting one mp3 every
week or so. I have downloaded:
The Melvins-Spit It Out.mp3
TheMelvins-The Bloated Pope.mp3

a buddy gave me a download of Biafra in London (c.12/2001). Lost the URL but I
mean to do a Google search on: Biafra_Lond_2001.mp3

At Susan King's event DJ Platypus was spinning a CD from
ZMAG or somebody like that. It had a JB tune on it I didn't
recognise, backed up by samples from that Buffalo
Springfield tune about "Something happening in here".
Stylistically it sounded like DIE FOR OIL SUCKER, but it
wasn't that.

I asked him about it, and there wasn't anything written
down to show me. All the CD had on it was a pattern of
ZMAGs. Most of it was anti war, and the Jello song was
no exception.

Anybody have furnther news? My curiosity is killing me...

I spent last evening in the San Mateo County Green Party

at how much easier to talk to the Republicans were

Tian, would you vote for the Dems if it were close in your
riding/county/whatever it is you guys have down there?

i voted Liberal last time, just in case it were close. i feel dirty. Of
course, showing up for work each morning makes me feel worse (whore-ish),

I have limited voting choices where I live. Republican, Democrat,
Libertarian, and what the hell ever that Ross Perot party is. That's it.
No write-ins allowed.

I vote for a Democrat every now and then. I don't mind
when we are talking about a good Democrat. It's the same
with the Republicans. I've enjoyed voting for Tom
Campbell at least a time or two. That was a great Republican!

Speaking of Republicans, I just saw a Steve Poizner commercial.
He was promising to be a real change. Pro-choice, anti oil
drilling, anti special interest. The proof is in the pudding,
but his ad looks good and it's getting air time on the Monday
Night postgame show. I dunno what to think...

Jello once described voting for one of the two major parties as
"Choosing the lesser of two evils". It's a choice that I would rather
not have to make. I really hate saying this, but I have decided to
vote Kerry. This is most likely one of the most important elections
of our time. I just feel as if I need to help make it as slight of a
victory as possible for Bush in Texas. From the way people are
talking here in his home state, it almost feels as if Kerry could take
Texas...For a fleeting, foolish moment.

I do not dislike John Kerry at this point, in fact he's raised some
good points.

Just not Bush. Anything but Bush.

Thanks George!

To Jody, I am interested to hear why you made the statement about the
terrorists. I don't understand if you've read something that has lead
you to believe that John Kerry is pure evil or you're just not happy
that I'm not voting Green. Because if that is the case, I understand.
I would've loved to vote with my heart, especially considering the
fact that this'll be my first time to vote. Sadly, however, I have to

You can vote for whoever you want. It's no concern of mine. My comment
had to do with your "anyone but Bush" comment. Anyone? Really?
Someone like David Duke would be preferable? Or is it really like how I
believe it is in most other cases... "I'd vote for *any Democrat*
instead of Bush, but I don't want to be called a sell-out for voting for
someone like Kerry." I don't think you have much to be concerned about
there. His wife may be rich, but he's enough of a leftist to gain the
support of Communist Party USA. That should shut any cool leftist peers
up.

I find it quite silly that you'd use that word to express your imagined
oppression.

As an aside about your Sore Loserman "Defeat Bush Again" button, maybe
*you* should brush up on the Electoral College system. Maybe you should
have paid attention to the recounts that followed, and maybe even
questioned why Gore was not interested in recounting the Panhandle votes
or even counting absentee ballots the *first* time.

"Every vote counts", my ass. Every probable *DEMOCRATIC* vote is more

Ask Kerry. He's the one who brought it up and has made it the bedrock
of his campaign.

Of course, when Bill Clinton was concerned, he rightly said that what
happened thirty years ago didn't matter as much as the present. His
*present* record is atrocious, so he plays the JFK card and was banking
on his own personal PT 109 story. That's why he's so pissed at the
swifties now. They're fucking up his Sgt. Rock fantasy.

--
Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) was skipper of the #96 and #
36 boat and spent time with John Kerry in An Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept
in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to bed at night
when Kerry was sleepwalking.

Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was
watching the Olympics on TV.

KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?"

BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it
had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that
were killed over there."

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift
guys that I wasn't
talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the
veterans."

Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant ["You were one of the best"] man
to man, face to face. Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry
was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what
happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back

"Caught" on videotape? He was in a classroom with kids to read a story
to them. I think under the circumstances, he did quite well. And what
real difference did that seven minutes make? Do you think he had to be
hands on the entire time? Do you not know that action was already being
taken? Would YOU have known exactly what to do and immediately jumped
into action when learning of something of this nature? You may not like
the guy or what he stands for, but to criticize him for this is really
unfair. And why would Kerry make that particular statement if it
weren't true? If he were to lie about something, wouldn't he lie to
make himself look better?

"More presidential?" The guy's a human too, and up to this point such a

You think I like everything Bush says and does? Nope. But considering
the alternative...

I've seen plenty of criticism of Bush here, but ZERO criticism of any of
the recent Dem candidates. Of course, I should expect nothing less.
And my criticism does not consist of cheap shots spoon-fed me by Michael
Moore. Can't really say that for many others.

So you don't think he should have at least made his excuses, gotten up and
ask people what the hell was going on? Maybe leave in case he was the next

textmessage or two? It's pretty discreet. Wouldn't "upset the children"

-America is under attack
-Hmm? Ok. Can you hold on a bit? This story is mighty interesting.

And there was of course the twenty minute photo-op afterwards. He was in no
hurry.

Shit, that guy is on your payroll and he was snoozing during working hours.

And the pet goat-thing is just the tip of the iceberg. How bout Kyoto,
Enron, the gay marriage debacle, invading Iraq, sending the economy to
kingdom come and getting taxbreaks for the top 1%?

I'm NOT getting into stuff on the pampered fratboy who went AWOL after
skipping Vietnam service, since that is irrelevant. I will neither get into
the ex-alkie, ex coke-fiend going born-again-thing. That's just character
assasination and has nothing to do with his actual job performance. Neither
will I talk about his career as a male cheerleader or failed oil tycoon.
That's just beneath me.

But what was the deal with him refusing to answer questions to the 911
commission unless nothing would be written down AND he could have good old
Tricky Dick "go fuck yourself" Cheney by his side?

Should we talk about his plans for making small strategic nukes? Yikes.

Why change horseman in mid-apocalypse?

But yeah, he is just a guy after all. He's good at serving turkey. And what
a SMASHING flightsuit.

And I think Kerry was honest about what he said. But he wasn't president. It

I sure remember and I was horrified. I can't imagine anyone feeling nothing
but sadness and empathy for you during that time, coupled with as much
support as we could have given you. I love my american friends and I feel
for you, believe it or not. Please don't tell me to shut up since it ain't
none of my business since I'm a foreigner. It is. Norway still got troops in

impressed by that guy either, but at least he knows what war is like before
starting them.

Man, you should come to our place, we got like tons of candidates to choose

Eight prez hopefuls at the last election (I live in Finland, skipping

it makes me so sad that a NG named after Jello Biafra has resulted in this
sort of nonsense.

C'mon people. Discuss issues, defeat Bush, ideas for a better future!

Let's not waste our time and energy with name calling and flame wars. We
should be better than that!

For example:

How do we get out of Iraq?

How do we stop exporting jobs to third world countries?

Do you have any idea what was really going on? Everything? Or are you
assuming what was going on based on what you saw in the Moore movie?
Come on, admit it. You saw it and it's coloring your view on it.
Moore's a brilliant propagandist. But he's consistently had trouble
showing the real truth after going through the editing booth.

> And the pet goat-thing is just the tip of the iceberg. How bout Kyoto,
> Enron, the gay marriage debacle, invading Iraq, sending the economy to

No, your view on what's happening here isn't one-sided at all. *Ahem*
Do you also agree he wants to hurt us or kill us all by poisoning us
with arsenic? The Dems should truly be ashamed of themselves with that one.

I think he was right to nix Kyoto. Enron was not exclusively supporting
the Republican Party. They gave to the Dems too. And as I recall, it
was a fairly equal amount. I don't know what you expect him to do about
gay marriage, since it is still illegal here. Not every place can be
Finland. (It is Finland where the two guys from The Sugarcubes got
married, isn't it?) A few mayors think they have more power than they
actually have and you're blaming that on Bush? Would you prefer he lay
the smackdown on them? Or give his full blessing to their breaking the
law?

I notice you didn't mention his attacking the Taliban which is what he
did before attacking Iraq. As for the economy, there was a little thing
called 9/11 that happened. I'm sure you've heard of it. Lots of people
around here where I live were re-assigned or simply lost their jobs as a
result.

But then, if you listen to the left, Bush knew about 9/11 in advance.
That seven minutes he sat there NUMB was a carefully practiced maneuver
to cover up his involvement. I'm about sick of hearing about how he's
responsible for the economy going "to kingdom come". Not sure if you've
heard, but the US economy is coming back very strong. Stronger than it
has for a long time. Are you going to give him the credit as well as
the blame? As for the tax breaks, I'm certainly not in the top 1% and I
have seen some returns. So I don't buy the same thing you seem to have bought.

"Tricky Dick"? You know, considering what he'd been saying about Cheney
(and what he'd been saying in general, in my opinion), Patrick Leahy
seriously needed to be told to go fuck himself. I applaud Cheney for
the suggestion.

I have questions similar to yours about why the commission came all over
themselves to give Richard Clarke an exceedingly warm reception (though
much blame for what went wrong lay in his lap) and they wanted to put
Condie Rice on the Iron Maiden. The whole thing was a farce, and I
would probably not give it much credence myself if I were in the same
position. It was a bunch of leftist attackers licking their chops at
the possibility of skewering a Republican president and helping a
Democrat get back in the White House. Kinda like how the 'Pubs went
after Clinton. You know, that's kinda where I moved more to the right
of center. Well, a bit after. I had a major problem with them doing
that back then, but I had more of a problem with Clinton lying under
oath. I think he could have avoided a lot of problems if he'd simply
been honest. But I know that's hard for him.

> But yeah, he is just a guy after all. He's good at serving turkey. And what

Never heard that he actually was a pilot, eh? Ever try flying a fighter
jet? When you do, maybe then you have the right to criticize him and
his flightsuit.

Do you know what you would have done in the same situation? Second time

head for the Batmobile? I don't really think you do.

I wouldn't presume to tell you to shut up because of where you're from.
But as I implied earlier in our conversation, where you are from
probably has a lot to do with why you see things the way you do. That
and your political leanings.

> And we see you as our friends. Then it feels shitty to be called "old
> europe" and stuff. That's just a disgrace. But I digress.

I embrace people who act as friends as well as call themselves friends.
I don't see France and Germany as friends in this matter. Especially
since they were Saddam's business partners. I haven't heard much about
Finland being hit by the "Old Europe" label, but then I don't hear much
news about Finland. About as much as I do Luxembourg. I would think
that to be considered "Old Europe", a country and its people would have
to have the "Old Europe" attitude. Like France, with some exceptions.

He's the only other probable guy to be in the White House next year.
Unfortunately. Did you have the same feeling when Clinton attacked the
places he attacked?

It gets brought up on *every* American Presidential election time. I

Chomsky in a Readers Digest-version, which I think is good. Far too many
liberals being intellectual snobs. He makes good entertainment out of
serious issues, but what exactly is the truth here? GWB is a good, honest

you find that a bit naïve?

You are not defending GWB's apathy by going after Moore, stay with the

out of the firing line, get as much info as possible. Not that hard, is it?
Didn't NATO have an exercise in Washington involving hijacked planes used
as missiles two years before? Not too sure about that one, but wouldn't that

plans? Isn't that their job?

By the way, Kerry doesn't support "gay marriage" either.

You never heard about it??? Made it to the Senate floor.

Did you see the actual Census report, or did you see a story about it
from MSNBC? I'm having a hard time finding the original source, so if
you have a link, clue me in.

Uh-huh. You don't want to discuss them. You just wanted to bring them
up and act like it was a freudian slip, of sorts. Why should I expect
any less?

You believe the stereotypes, don't you? I agree that for there to be
stereotypes, there has to be someone to reinforce them. Otherwise, they
wouldn't exist. Not every Pub is the same, no matter what you've heard.
It was a quiet aside to Sen. Leahy, as I heard. Not something
broadcast across the floor or the media until a Dem thought he could use
it for political fodder. Leahy had been taking some cheap shots and
making false accusations toward Cheney, so I think he deserved it.

Very tame compared to what I've seen in Britain's Parliament. Or
Japan's. Have you not seen them, or do you hold them to a different
standard? As a matter of fact, I'd see things like this as a welcome
change to the false smiles and fake politeness in the Senate as well as
Congress. They'd have some lowering to do to reach the level of the
Parliaments in the UK and Japan, though. Bet C-SPAN's rating would go
through the roof, though.

Why don't you ask them? If there were any nasty dirt to be hurled
afterward, I'm sure Ben-Veniste and Bob Kerrey would have hurled it.
From memory. I don't remember hearing anything. You?

You said he was "good for serving turkey" and commented on his "smashing
flight suit" to belittle him. Pilot a jet, and maybe I'll take your
statement as something more than sour grapes with a snotty attitude.

He got on a plane soon after and headed for Shreveport, LA. But those
seven minutes were very crucial. I do agree with you on that now. Can
you tell me exactly how those seven minutes would have prevented
anything that happened afterward?

Yeah, they should have hired a psychic to tell them these guys were
going to hijack the planes. That way if they'd been caught, this would
never have happened and those guys would be in the courts complaining
that they'd been "racially profiled".

Must be. You're more concerned about my government than yours. Thanks
for your concern.

No, I'd expect him to check me when I needed it. But if my friend
wouldn't stand with me because of his financial ties and partnerships
(not to mention personal friendships where Chirac is concerned) with my
enemy, he's not my friend, is he?

I don't think Iraq is the fuck-up people like you would have me believe.
After all, if you have questions about the presence of WMDs in Saddam's
regime or wonder if the world is a better place without him, ask a Kurd.
My bet is that they were moved to Syria. I'd love for that to come to
light. Though it wouldn't get much play in the media. Ask an Iraqi in
a couple of years time whether they're better off then than when Saddam
was in power. Unless they're a Baathist, I'm sure their response will
more often than not be positive.

By the way, Saddam wasn't even supposed to have the Scuds he launched
when we attacked. Wonder why the UN couldn't find them?

I don't assume anything. Well, at least not too much anyway. Just
checking, that's all.

A little late, but I finally got it. Sorry about that.
