Besides, if something really happened it would be all over the entertainment
websites and I haven't seen it yet. They covered the show enough that if
something bad happened they would have had a field day because you can't
hide those things. Someone in the audience would have spilled the beans.

No, no, no, no. Remember, the show is taped, so what you see on the air
is exactly what they want you to see. Just because they do not spell it
out for you, doesn't mean it wasn't scripted that way.
This reminds me how, about a year ago, Letterman had a really awful boy
group called "Fresh Step" as musical act. For several weeks, folks in
alt.fan.letterman were viciously arguing, trying to figure out whether that
had been a real band or not. It was "Good grief, how did these losers ever
get a record contract?" vs. "Come on, it was a joke, alright? Don't you get
it?" over and over again. I think what finally gave it away was when
someone noticed that their website, www.fresh-step.com, actually was just a
pointer to some page at www.nbc.com.
Or similarly, when Conan O'Brien was in L.A. for that one week, he did a
bit where he went to the homes of some actresses that he had had on the
show, now asking them out for a date (and of course he got turned down by
all of them). That was done very convincingly, but they were kind enough to
finally give it away as a joke: At Gina Gershon's home, when she insisted
that it was a very bad moment, a door behind her opened and out came,
apparently just stepping out of the shower, Andy Richter. Until that moment
I had really thought to myself "Conan, you loser, what the hell are you
doing there?" And of course, one of the reactions on the a.f.c-o-b
newsgroup the next day was "Jeri Ryan's such a bitch! How could she be so
mean to him?"
So, if you are convinced that Arsenio really hurt that woman, maybe it's
just because he's a good actor, and his startled look was much better
acting than you usually see on Tonight Show sketches. As a matter of fact,
I have always thought that while Jay is great at stand-up comedy and
interviews, he really sucks as an actor. Oh, and don't even get me started
about Ed Hall... :-)

Ouch. I meant www.cbs.com of course.

Au contraire - she was a celebrity
check out http://www.pamelapaulshock.com/ then go back and look at your
tape of the trick.
Either it was a _very_ lame joke or Arsenio goofed the stunt and really
hurt her. It did seem like they cut it real short and went to a commercial
either to cover a mistake or make you wonder.
What I find most interesting is the number of commercials that they
used after they cut away. I counted over 12 minutes of back-to-back
commercials. This does not normally happen, particularly since the
show doesn't really start introducing guests until about 11 P.M. CDT.
The Tonight show normally is about 45 minutes locally. This particular
episode had a filler of nearly 12 minutes in addition to its usual
commercials, which made the on-air time shown to be about 35 minutes.
At the end of the show Leno thanked everyone, even the lame male lover
who was on the air for at most 15 seconds! He didn't mention Pamela,
not one time through the rest of the show, or kid Arsenio about how
pathetic a magician he was. It was as if they were avoiding the issue
entirely.
Come on people, if she was hurt they would have first never shown the
segment. Second, it would have been all over the place in the news. Just
to point this out look at the following story I found on Yahoo news. I
searched for a while under every possible combination and found no mention
at all of the so called "injury". Here is a link to a story outlining the
entire show:
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010621/en/power_leno_1.html
They talk about virtually every sketch and yet never mention a woman getting
knifed in the stomach which you would have thought would have been news
worthy. Give it a rest, sorry. If anyone has a real story that says she
was hurt bring it on, but I think your going to be looking for a very long
time.

Well that article doesn't mention Arsenio at all.
So I don't see how that helps your argument.
When "Pam" yells "ouch you cut me!" And Arsenio opens the
box (she is in) she sits up - so clearly she wasn't hurt badly
nor did she even have a chance to "survey the damage".
My opinion was that she felt the pressure of the "blade" and over-reacted,
but they decided to end the skit abruptly anyways.
Maybe she was supposed to 'bleed' but the special effect didn't work. The
bag of fake blood didn't puncture. There have been 'bloody' jokes before on
the show, but maybe this one didn't work.
Danny.
As I said, show me an article with the injury in it and you have proved your
point. I've got a lot more evidence, and common sense, to support my theory
than I have seen anyone on the other side. Sorry, but I'm not buying it
until there is a valid news story or they mention it on the show.
