It was one of the non-Eon Productions' Bonds that cast David Niven as
Bond-"Casino Royale" (1967).

He probably never remembered the Casino Royale TV-presentation, which cast
Barry Nelson as Bond-that is to be expected.

You can tell your roommate that he's missing a few. Here's the
complete list:

1) Bob Hokness
2) Barry Nelson
3) Sean Connery
4) David Niven
5) Peter Sellers
6) Woody Allen
7) George Lazenby
8) Roger Moore
9) Timothy Dalton
10) Pierce Brosnan

I don't think David Niven should count. That Casino Royale movie is a piece of
shit.

I don't think Barry Nelson should count either, although I have no problem
with the 1954 TV version of Casino Royale. A bit different from the book, a bit
of changes, but still serious. Pretty damn good for a live show.

Bond is Bond, and an actor who played him should be given credit. For those
fans that only consider Eon Bond films to really be Bond films, that's their
problem. Less movies to work with.

You forgot Michael Jayston, he played Bond in a radio adaptation of YOLT in the
'90s.

Bob Holness is the fellow who walks in front of the gun barrel just before
the opening credits of Dr. No.

No, that's Bob Simmons in the first precredit gunbarrel sequence. It
remained as such until changing screen ratios and processes required Connery
to take his turn at the famous twist and fire. All the following Bonds have
done their own.

If we count everyone titled 007 in the comedy "Casino Royale", we'd then
have several hundred names of actors playing Bond, not to mention Woody
Allen as well!

Let's stick to the 5, and let Casino Royale (the American TV special and
the comedy relief movie) drop.

Just because the movie is a piece of shit doesn't mean the actor
didn't play James Bond. The poster asked how many people played James
Bond -- Niven and Nelson DID play them, so they're part of the answer.

Thank-you. I was about to go to the Internet Movie Database and look for "Bob
Holness." You idiots even knocked down felix's self-esteem. Now apologise.

Since David Niven also starred in a mid-1970s comedy/horror film,
titled OLD DRACULA, in which he played the famous vampire, I suppose we
could also ask--

Did David Niven bond as a Count?

:-)

Best, Jim

with lethal puns....)

I have never watched the show but my local newspaper used to put out a small publication on Sunday, When Daniel Craig became Bonf for the first time they mentioned Conner, Lanzeby, Moore, Dalton, and Bronson and a small fact about each. Connery became a cult classic, The second one was controversial. Moore was the least serious. Dalton was dark and cool enough and Pierce looked like he spent more time at a spa then as a spy. Craig was too blond to be bond. In my opinion the charcter has to grow and each man brought his own spin on the man Agent 007

I have no idea what the hell show you are talking about, given the lack of
context and reviving a thread from 1999.

>but my local newspaper used to put out a small publication on Sunday,
>When Daniel Craig became Bonf for the first time they mentioned Conner,
>Lanzeby, Moore, Dalton, and Bronson and a small fact about each. Connery
>became a cult classic,

Connery was a main stream movie star. C'mon. A cult movie was a failure
in the year it was released and likely panned by critics as well, that
found an audience later either through late night showings or home video.

>The second one was controversial.

The controversy wasn't over his performance in On Her Majesty's Secret
Service. The performance is fine, and as it's the straightest adaptation
of Ian Fleming, a real favorite with those of us who liked the novels.

The controversy was created by Lazenby himself who refused to honor his
seven movie commitment, which is why they gave Connery the truck full of
money to return for Diamonds Are Forever.

>Moore was the least serious.

He was hired to do nudge nudge wink wink, alas, more of the humor in the
vein of Goldfinger. A lot of it still works today. In several movies,
like For Your Eyes Only, Moore gave a good performance playing Fleming's
Bond. He could act when he tried. I always liked the guy as he had a
nice sense of humor.

>Dalton was dark and cool enough

Dalton is probably the best actor of all to play Bond. Wish he'd had
better scripts, but I do like Licence to Kill a lot.

>and Pierce looked like he spent more time at a spa then as a spy.

Hehehehehe

>Craig was too blond to be bond.

Craig brought a real dangerous performance, reminiscent of Fleming, so I
liked it. Nevertheless, Quantum of Solace is one of the worst movies
I've ever seen. Probably his best movie was Skyfall.
