As this composite pic illustrates, Julia Roberts' character in Notting Hill
is based on Jane Seymour, who starred in Somewhere In Time in 1979.
In November 1978, KVIL Radio's Ron Chapman invited his listeners to Texas
Stadium to be extras for the ABC TV-movie, The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
I showed up at Texas Stadium that morning, and Jane Seymour enjoyed my James
Bond impression. Jane talked the director into filming the two of us as we
ad-libbed funny James Bond scenes. As a result of the screen test, I was
offered a role in The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, but declined.
Jane Seymour had a copy of the film scenes we had ad-libbed sent to Albert
R. Broccoli, producer of the James Bond film series. As a result, I was
called back to the stadium a few weeks later to film additional footage in
the Texas Stadium parking lot with Jane Seymour and the actor Clifton James,
who had played the Sheriff in Live And Let Die.
I then had a unique on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Jane
Seymour, and she came to Arlington to see me periodically while I attended
college.
I strongly believe that my out of the ordinary romance with Jane Seymour
served as the inspiration for Notting Hill, and what follows are a few items
of "evidence" which seem to indicate that:
Here's the URL for a web site with a review of the film from Spliced Online
which says, "What average JOE or JANE wouldn't love to have a gorgeous movie
star fall in love with them?"
http://www.splicedonline.com/99reviews/nottinghill.html
When Julia Roberts was interviewed by David Letterman about Notting Hill, he
asked her, "I understand that this really happened to some guy?" At that
point, she responded, "Yes, it did--but they wouldn't tell me who, because I
can't keep a secret."
There's also a park bench in a private park in Notting Hill that plays an
incremental role in the film. The bench is inscribed with a dedication "from
Joseph to June." The film ends with Julia Roberts and
Hugh Grant sitting on the bench, with her character a few months pregnant.
Well, if you take the letter "U" in June, and change it to an "A," it's
quite clever how that dedication on the bench becomes "from Joseph to Jane."
I went to IMDB.com (International Movie Data Base), and found that Alec
Baldwin's character in Notting Hill is named "Jeff King."
http://us.imdb.com/Credits?0125439
Baldwin goes uncredited in the film, thus, that name does not appear in the
credits.
I don't believe that the last name "King" was ever mentioned in the film. If
it was, I must have missed it.
There's also a James Bond reference in Notting Hill. At the climax of the
film, as Hugh Grant's family is trying to race to Julia Roberts' press
conference, one of them says, "Even James Bond never had to put up with
anything like this!"
Notting Hill is the story of an ordinary fellow from England and a beautiful
American movie star. While in real life, I am an average American guy, and
Jane Seymour is a beautiful movie star from England.
Finally, in the latest James Bond film, The World Is Not Enough, I was
surprised at the dozens of times that the name "King" comes up. There is
Electra King, her father Robert King, King Industries, and the King Oil
Pipeline. The name "King" is mentioned 28 times, and appears numerous other
times on helicopters, large signs, etc.
I think that it's more than a coincidence that they decided to use the name
"King" in the Bond film. Given the fact that the current James Bond
producers, Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, will not return my phone
calls or other correspondence, perhaps it's some type of left-handed
complement.

Well, I'm convinced. *I* am the father of Jane Seymour's kids.
And the next James Bond.

I'll make you guys the same offer I made with J.D. Ryan, the News Director of
KYNG Radio in Dallas. The web page "Urban Legends" delights in debunking fake
stories from the Internet--and occassionally they turn out to be true.
We submitted that Press Release to "Urban Legends" about a month ago, and they
haven't debunked it yet.
Perhaps if more of you will forward the URL and Press Release to "Urban
Legends," they'll check into it.
If you think the Press Release is bulls***, then ask "Urban Legends" to debunk
it and remove any doubt about it.
If we're going to fight in here, let's behave the way that gentlemen do who
decide to put on the boxing gloves and step into the ring. Feel free to hit me
with your best shot, but do so with class. If it's not true--prove it.
Okay, now that we agree to behave like gentlemen. Here we go...
I just submitted the Press Release and links to Urban Legends.
I encourage you to submit it to them, as well. After all, they're more likely
to look into it if a lot of people ask them to.
Their e-mail address is: sno...@snopes.com; spo...@snopes.com
Why not send them an e-mail, and tell them you'd enjoy hearing from them
whether my story floats--or if they shoot it down...

Let me tell you about the time I shagged Jane.
I met Jane in a night club in Cleveland. She looked at me and I looked at
her. From there on out our love would shine through the ages. She asked my
name, I told her it was Mike Feeney. We both went to my van parked down by
the river. She was drunk and so was I but our desire to spawn was sober.
She got in my van and so did I. We undressed and made mad passionate love.
That was the best 3 seconds of my entire life.
So you went for the full foreplay then? <g>

Didn't you leave out the part about skinny-dipping in the Cuyahoga?

It's easy to "say" it's just a fantasy. Prove it.
The onus is not on me to prove you wrong, it would be on you to prove you're
right.
But frankly I can't be arsed with any of it. Let's face it, you make Michael
look stable, and that takes some doing.
