I would like to see a tribute to Q in the next Bond movie. God knows he
deserves it.

I agree...

In the titles sequence perhaps...
Maurice Binder would have done Q proud.

Perhaps a montague ( I hope I spelled that right) of photographs
of Q from all of the Bond films, before the pre-credit scene
begins. I think he deserves it. He was a constant in this
series, and as I read in an earlier post here, there were
five Bonds but one Q.

Goodbye Desmond.

In the next wave of Bond DVDs to be released, one of them (OHMSS, I
believe) will include a supplemental documentary on Desmond and the
various gadgets.

I was personally very pleased with EON's decision to place Bernard Lee's
portrait in MI6 HQ this time around, perhaps they could have a portrait of
Desmond next to the Q Branch door, as well as an "In Memory of..." credit at
the beginning of the film before the gunbarrel and also at the end, right below
the "James Bond Will Return." Knowing EON, they will do something, perhaps
even omit a Q branch scene and make only a brief mention of Q having retired
and R being on leave, much as they did in FYEO, not recasting M and making only
a quick mention as to his status "on leave." I think any of the above would be
a decent tribute to Desmond, but nothing can really be called a fitting tribute
to the one constant actor throughout the entire 007 series to date. Hats off
to a true Double-O Legend!

I hope they do more for Q then they did for M. I always hated the way
EON dealt with Bernard Lee's passing. Desmond deserves more.

This got discussed in the Doctor Who IRC channel I was in last night.
We're all Bond fans too, and have all been shocked and saddened by the
news. Most of us have seen elderly relatives fade away painfully over a
long time, and are glad at least he was spared that indignity.
The talk turned next to what would make a fitting tribute in the next
film, suggestions included Q's funeral as the start of the film, rather
than some outrageous stunt-filled teaser; and seeing Q's "fishing boat"
somewhere in the distance.
We'll all miss him, things just won't be the same without him. The
channel topic has been set to "Goodbye to Desmond Llewellyn - Bond won't
be the same without you. (Random_C) - http://www.misfit.org/views/mlee19

The show must go on! And I think Desmond would want it to. I can't
believe how close to the release of the film he has died, but it says
a great deal for the man that *he* wanted a "goodbye" scene written
in, just in case. It's almost as if he knew he was going to die,
albeit not in this fashion

And as for a tribute - all I want, right before the gun barrel, is a
simple

"For Desmond"

That'll be enough for me - it's going to be hard enough to watch the
next Bond without shedding a tear

I think we will see it. EON would have to be heartless not to recognise
his impact and involvement.
I too will miss him. As an engineer, I grow up idolising the Q
character. My ideal job would have been in Q branch, instead of pressing
buttons and designing networks. Still I dream.

Farewell Desmond, you will be missed the world over.

It's in there. The beginning of the last section in the last chapter, Ben.

"Winter slid into spring and fishing began again, but now Kissy dived naked
like the other girls and Bond and the bird dived with her and there were
good days and bad days. But the sun shone steadily and the sea was blue and
wild irises covered the mountain side and everyone made a great fuss as the
sprinkling of cherry trees burst into bloom, and Kissy wondered what moment
to choose to tell Bond that she was going to have a baby and whether he
would then propose marriage to her."

"You Only Live Twice" - "Sparrow's Tears" chapter (Page 190 in the Pan Books
paperback; page 159 in the Signet):

"Winter slid into spring, and fishing began again, but now Kissy dived naked

like the other girls and Bond and the bird dived with her and there were
good days and bad days. But the sun shone steadily and the sea was blue and

That Fleming. He was pretty good.

Oddly enough, I was watching an episode of 'The Persuaders' the other
day. For those who don't know, this TV series starred Roger Moore &
Tony Curtis. A lot of the action was set in an office and suddenly I
thought I saw a portrait of Bernard Lee on the wall. Obviously I was
seeing things, wasn't I?

Then I saw it again, more clearly and it was definitely him. Why would
they hang a picture of 'M' in someone's office in 'The Persuaders',
remember - this was before Moore took over as Bond!

Then a new character entered the action and it all became clear.
Bernard Lee was actually in the episode playing a high-powered
executive, and the portrait on the wall was as in the case of many
corporations when they honour Presidents/Chairmen in this way.

Incidentally, Moore tried to kill Lee at the climax of the action. He
had been brain-washed just as Bond was when he tried to kill 'M' in the
novel of 'You Only Live Twice'.

You do, of course, mean TMWTGG. I just finished YOLT (very good book), but
Bond only makes it as far as going to Vladivostok there. He doesn't go for M
until TMWTGG.

By the way- I've seen it mentioned that Kissy was pregnant at the end of YOLT,
but I didn't see this in the book- anyone have any info on it?

Ah- thanks Michael. I obviously didn't read that part very well- I'll pick the
book up from the school library upon return and reread the last chapter.

Desmond Llewelyn's tragic death marks the end of an era for the Bond films.
The series never be quite the same again, and it seems fitting that a
tribute be included in the next instalment.
It is certain that more Bond adventures are yet to come, but left to the
past are those which cannot be matched, thanks to Llewelyn's loyalty to the
series and the true perfection he brought in his many contributions.
Desmond Llewelyn should be honoured as he is by his many fans at this time,
in loving memory...
