Ah--tonight we have Morse in Italy. A&E has on Death of the Self.
It hought it was the one with the opera singer in a gaping scoop neck
top! LOL. My favourite part is Morse crying at the end! I always tear
up with 'Nessun Dorma' which is NOT what the wench is singing! LOL.

Anyone else like this epi? Fave parts? Let's visit, folks!

And thanks to all who encouraged our Herman to keep with us!

CHEERS!

O yes, I like this episode, though it is not my fave. But still, on a
nice spring evening like today's it's worthwile watching. Morse in
Verona, though the case started in Vicenza (pay attention when and
especially how Super Intendent Strange pronounces the name of this city
and how he is corrected by Morse, it's so typical Morse!). Vicenza, not
that far away of Venice: it's a pity that some sideline didn't bring
Morse and Lewis to this wonderful city, ah, Venice in spring... how I
feel my romantic heart.

Well, time for yet another beer, who will join me in the beergarden?

I forgot to mention last night how lovely the scenery is in this epi.
The coulours are antural and muted, the scenery breathtaking. If I
hadn't wanted to visit Italy sometime before this, I certainly do now.
I wish I knew where the locations were filmed in general.

Well Cy, I suppose it was all (well, almost all) filmed on location. The
open air theatre at the end of the movie actually was the Roman theatre
of Verona - or they did a marvellous thing in copying it for this
episode! They used some material from an opera production I happen to
have on video (Turandot) for creating an atmosphere - I recognised some
images from that video.
Most of the outside scenes were filmed in Vicenza, again I presume, or in
another, maybe somewhat more quiet town in northern Italy. As I have been
several times in northern Italy I immediately recognised the 'scenery' of
it all. If you have a map of Italy, you will find Vicenza some 50 miles
west of Venice.

If you ever intend of going to Italy, avoid the summer holidays, if you
can. Too many people, too hot. Spring, this time, end of April, the month
of May, is the best period to go in my opinion: everything is in blossom,
it has a nice, not too hot temperature. I was two years ago in Venice in
October. Only in Venice. It were still very nice temperatures, round 70
degrees F, but after a hot summer all nature has died: no more flowers or
lovely greens. I know from a brother-in-law, that in summer temperatures
can rise well into the 90's! And as Venice is a town completely lying in
the water it is a very humid kind of warmth then, which kills all
activities you want to do. So I was lucky in October. I expect
temperatures now to be round the 70's again.

I do want to go to Vicenza one day...
