> Half of Jesus Twins Sings the Blues / Arraigned for alleged threat
> By Robert E. Kessler. STAFF WRITER
>
> A Long Island singer, who has made something of a name for himself
> by appearing on the Howard Stern show, was arraigned yesterday in
> Federal District Court in Uniondale on a charge of threatening to kill
> the social worker who is assisting him in a Nassau County criminal
> case.
>
> Eric Liebowitz, 25, who along with his brother Jeffrey
> Liebowitz make up the Jesus Twins singing duo, was arrested by FBI
> agents in Beverly Hills, Calif., last week on a charge of telephoning
> the death threat to Sylvia Gelfand, a Long Beach social worker who is
> seeking to have him committed to a mental hospital, according to
> Assistant United States Attorney Burton Ryan.
>
> In the same telephone call, he insulted the judge handling his
> Nassau County case and his mother, Ryan said.
>
> Federal Magistrate Viktor Pohorelsky released Liebowitz on $50,000
> bail pending a future hearing, on the condition he be evaluated by a
> psychiatrist and be electronically monitored while living with his
> mother, Marian Robbins, in Syosset.
>
> Liebowitz was arrested in February by Nassau County Police on
> charges that he stole a pickup truck in Valley Stream, drove it into
> two police cars whose officers were attempting to arrest him and then
> struck another police officer in the nose, according to Ryan.
>
> As a result of the arrest, Liebowitz' family hired the social
> worker
> to assist them through the court process, prosecutor Ryan said.
>
> The social worker concluded that Liebowitz was suffering from
> chronic "bipolar disorder with psychotic features," and should be
> hospitalized, Ryan said.
>
> Apparently angered by this, Liebowitz, who has been living in
> Beverly Hills with his brother Jeffrey, called the social worker last
> week and said, "I'm gonna - - - murder you if I come back to New
> York," Ryan said. Ryan said as a result of the phone call, the judge
> hearing the county case, Donald Belfi, has recused himself.
>
> Jeffrey Liebowitz, who was in the court yesterday, said his
> brother was "a manic depressive" who did not mean to hurt anybody. He
> said his brother made the phone call at a time when he had stopped
> taking one medication for his illness and begun taking a new
> medication.
>
> Eric Liebowitz' attorney, federal public defender Randi Chavis,
> declined to comment. The Liebowitz brothers have appeared a number of
> times on the Howard Stern show.
>
> A spokesman for Stern could not be reached for comment and
> neither could Gelfand, the social worker.

They were more annoying than Robin's forced laugh or her finishing
Howard's sentences. I wish she'd shut up once in a while, and let
Howard yell at his staff -- that's my favorite part of the radio show.

I remember that: that was scary. Thanks for posting that article, Anon. What
I'd also like to know is what happened to the agent?
