Fox Chapel, Pa. (AP) -- Doug Ostrosky, a Fox Chapel High tight end
and the son of a University of Pittsburgh booster, is the second
Pennsylvania high school football player to make an early commitment
to Penn State.

Earlier, all-state wide receiver Joe Nastasi of Northern Bedford
committed to the Nittany Lions.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Ostrosky is rated by some scouting services
as one of the nation's top five prep tight ends, although he caught
only eight passes for 115 yards last season. Fox Chapel is not a
throwing team and Ostrosky had an injured ankle part of the season.

Most high school players do not commit to a college until December,
but Ostrosky wanted to concentrate on his senior season without the
distractions of recruiting. He also visited Stanford and considered
Notre Dame and Virginia.

Ostrosky's father, Bob, was a Pitt football letterman for 25 years
and is a member of the Pitt Golden Panthers boosters, and his mother
also is a Pitt graduate. The family has had Pitt season football
tickets for 25 years.

Still, Doug Ostrosky never seriously considered Pitt.

``I'm just not an inner-city person,'' he said.

Landing Ostrosky is a recruiting victory for Penn State coach Joe
Paterno, who was passed over by most of Pennsylvania's top prep
players last season. Penn State's new affiliation with the Big Ten
was blamed in part for the Lions' recruiting problems in the
Pittsburgh area.

The Nittany Lions host Minnesota Sept. 4 to open their inaugural Big
Ten season.
