Get a hold of the Science Channel's (#193 on the Dish Network)
"Through the Wormhole" episode titled "Life After Death." Prof.
Hofstadter is interviewed fairly extensively towards the end of the
program. This was a real treat for me, since the closest I had come
was audio during the "Spritual Machine" debate back 4 or 5 years ago.
But then, I had never tried youtube, that would have cinched it way
back.

My friend Andrea gave me a cat litter box full of Aloe Vera plants.
One of sent up a pole a yard long with a big flower cluster on the top.
Never saw one of those before! The flowers look orange and tubular.
Now it's on my front porch beaming away...

I've never seen one bloom. It must be due to the fact that one can do
so much better in CA than in TX growing things. I knew a guy who got
a cut from a big AVP and had to break off a part of a leaf to rub the
juice on his wound. There's something vaguely Hofstadterian about
that.

My fictitious former girlfriend 's name was stolen from a soft-porn
novel title I once saw for sale in a gas station while Mitch Harbin
and I were travelling to some football game long ago in Alabama:
"Darlene takes a Toss."

Once Don Oliver and I were doing a lunar grazing occultation near Houston and a person’s home was near the graze path , he gave Don Oliver a huge aloe vera plant , largest I ever saw maybe 4 feet across and 6 feet high , as Don Oliver was loading the plant into his truck he cut himself on the thorns so it worked out very well because he just broke off the tip of one of the leaves and rubbed the juice on the wound.

you have a potential infinity of thoughts in your mind. what that means is the number of thoughts truly is infinite but you can only instantiate one at a time and each instantiation takes a finite amount of time so you basically can't express all the thoughts during your lifetime . it just gets back to the cybernetic potential versus actual infinity . I found this out while studying Magritte's painting of a pipe where he labels the painting "this is not a pipe". Of course it's not a pipe, it's a painting of a pipe. So what all else is the painting of a pipe not . It's not a bee, it's not a dog, it's not an electron existing on a planet near the cosmological event horizon. So you can only instantiate what the painting of the pipe is not one at a time. What all this means is all kinds of different things , stories , thoughts , memes have a whole lot of members.
language , debates , conversation are all very nearly infinite. make a statement to your conversational opponent and if they're a good player they can top you.
And so it goes.

i'm pretty sure the number of thoughts you have in your mind is a potential infinity because look at a much simpler case that of a computer driving a printer to print out the sequence this is sentence number one this is sentence number two this is sentence number three and so on that's a potential infinity right there in the human mind must be more complicated by a factor of millions or trillions or billions or quadrillion are googl googolplex sure some of those numbers that hofstadter talked about using the arrow notation although I don't know what that is so this explains why there are so many varied things going around out there thoughts and Memes and stuff that's because there's just a whole bunch of possibilities

at CSC one time there was a MITRE guy there I think miter might've had some hand in the Apollo program but anyway we were talking about things programmers will do to get their program compiled that are under the counter so I said well what you can do is put in a bunch of write statements which will rearrange the load module and possibly make it Kampala correctly the motor guy says well you shouldn't do that because then it might give wrong answers and do you know that I'm really bad about not piping up right when people say things and it's too late to try to correct them later but anyway I Should've told him that I wouldn't do that I just said that some people might do that so that was a missed opportunity to correct myself so maybe that guy will read this right here although I doubt it he probably never run across it here and hes probably dead anyway I'd go back and correct the Apple dictation which is surely to be strewn with errors but it's too much trouble I think you can decipher it on your own without resorting to the NSA.

People need to realize how fast the metasystem transition is . I think it would change our ideas about how quickly the atmosphere could be cleaned up and protected. I'm just guessing , if you make an estimate of 100 years without the MST perhaps it would be just five or 10 years with it. But then you can't make an estimate without the metasystem transition occurring because it's automatic.

cybernetic effects are very counter intuitive , so you try to tell people about them they'll think you're crazy , tune you out and go on discussing the latest sports figure instead.

But we have to make sure hofstadter's law doesn't come in to play because that would make the estimate even longer than 100 years. Any suggestions send them to my email address

So, if you have a lot of small organizations working toward preventing climate change do they necessarily form quickly into a metasystem ; necessarily so , not necessarily so ? Quickly , or not quickly? Is a large organization better at bringing about change than a bunch of small ones?

5 to 10 years can't be right ; who knows how long it will take if the estimate is initially 100 years?

Perhaps the way this works is every system contributing to defeat climate change all the way down to you recycling plastics combines through the meta-system transition to form a global meta-system resisting climate change and this process can be extremely fast since the metasystem transition can be very fast so maybe there's some hope for us.

So every nation on the Earth could be considered a system combining into a metasystem (which happens very quickly) called One World or the NewWorld Order or if it has the structure of a living organism it would be called the global brain.

Huxley in his novel Brave New World calls the Earth at the time of the novel 600 years in the future the World System. Can there possibly be a stronger system than the Earth becoming a living system?

It's nice that all these cybernetic effects like the metasystem transition , emergence , transcendence .....are all totally automatic ; if we depended on humans to do them they'd never get done.

The United States government looks like a PTA meeting when compared to global matters.

I used to think that the global brain was an automatic shoe in, but then Putin came along . can't have a global brain with no humans left on the earth.

Shouldn't the solution to climate change in principle be the same as you going out to your car parked in the hot sun all day and then rolling down your windows to relieve the heat?

I was talking to somebody about why the Star Child in the movie 2001 only destroyed the orbiting nuclear weapons and he left all the ground ones which certainly would've been enough to fry the earth 1000 times over and he said well Kubrick had to do it for a reason , everything Kubrick did was for a reason , and he must've realized that part of the plot so what I've come up with is the reason he did it is to increase conversation currently , and we all know that increased conversation makes for a more powerful global brain.
