isn't it true that if everybody communicated with everybody all the time the result would be White Noise so that nobody would transfer any information to anyone , so perhaps that's the reason why so many people don't communicate with each other?

I didn't hijack this group .everybody else who has ever posted to it except in the early days didn't care about Hofstadter and they were just here to yak so I'm the only one left and as per all of civilization people don't particularly care to talk anymore it gets them in trouble And not talking is a punishment people use against one another but then again if everybody answered every message they received the system would go to white noise and nobody could get any communication done at all which actually might be a good thing.

How many possible two person relationships are there across the entire globe? Assuming there are 7 billion people on Earth you have to form the 7,000,000,000th triangular number, which is closely given by 7,000,000,000 squared divided by 2, or 24.5 quadrillion.
But what if you want to limit it to just heterosexual couples? Then you need the 3.5 billionth triangular number, 3,500,000,000 squared divided by 2 , or 6.125 quadrillion.

if the human population on earth is 7 billion then the total number of possible two person relationships is equal to the 7 billionth triangular number which is equal to 24.5 quadrillion. the number of female-female couples is equal to the 3.5 billionth triangular number which is 6.125 quadrillion. The number of male-male couples is the same as female-female, 6.125 quadrillion. So how many heterosexual couples are there ? that's equal to the total number of all relationships minus female-female and male-male relationships which is equal to 12.25 quadrillion . so when you break up with someone you can tell them there's a lot of other people to take up with , but it's not in the quadrillions though for one person . the possible number of other relationships is 7 billion minus 2. so when that person fades into the sunset you can holler at them that there's 7,000,000,000 - 2 people just waiting to take your place , just like they tell you on the job there's hundreds of people waiting to take your place if you act up here.

You can figure the number of heterosexual couples directly by it being the square of 3.5 billion as opposed to forming the total number of relationships and then subtracting off the same-sex couples.
