We won't be attending, unfortunately. Kinda why I posted it here, so
I can get e "look" at it. So don't feel bad if it's too far away - it
is for us here in Kansas, too.
The book it is based on is "Brief Garland", by Harold Keith, and it a
pretty good read. The movie takes certain libertied WRT the book,
but that's usually the case.

Motherthing
My father is the main character, Clay Driscoll. It's the story, as told
by my great-uncle, of how dad got snookered into coaching girls instead
of boys basketball. The short story was that he was hired by the
superintendant for the boys job but during the summer the super had a
heart attack and the school board prez, who owned the town essentially,
hired someone else for the boys and shoved Dad into the girls slot. The
contracts back then hired for *teaching* with coaching as an add on.
They also didn't specify what you would be coaching.
Uncle Harold came to our house for several weeks getting everything just
right, from the color of the grass to what it took to pick cotton. How
the gym would feel during those hot days when the wind blew the red clay
dirt all over and you had to stop practice to sweep the floor about
every thirty minutes.
Dad spent the next 30+ years coaching girls and never looked back.
The baby adopted at the end is me...

That is great Motherthing! I read the synopsis, but was just curious
why it was your father's movie.
I'll have to find the story! Especially since I am nowhere near
California.

but I don't know what it is. Amazon may have it, but if they don't let
me know and I'll find a copy for you and anyone else who wants one.
School...EEP. Sixteen hours this term and tutoring on top of that!
It's fun but I'm a little tired. I checked out what I need for Pharmacy
school and I can probably be going by fall '07. That's if I can get in!
I have an appt for friday to sit up a schedule to get all the prereqs
done at the local cow-college so it won't cost so much. Once the real
stuff starts it'll be $10,000 per year just for tuition! What fun is
had by all...

Thanks E! I'll know for sure by Friday but it looks like I'll be taking
at least two hard science courses per semester, maybe more to be sure I
can appy for fall '07. I got the list from the recruiter yesterday so
have to make plans now to finish by spring '07 and try to rest up that
summer because once the pharm school starts in earnest there's no
looking back. Wheeeee.....

Well, the word from the director is that the movie was quite
well-received at it's main showing. Since it wasn't a premium house
production, they are having some difficulty marketing it, but he said
that they have revised their strategy and are hoping to get it out in
summer-fall.
If anyone is interested, i can post the letter he sent. Let me know.
