I quite enjoyed "The Songs of Distant Earth" by
Arthur C. Clarke.
I did not see how in any way, that venture was doomed
to fail.
It seemed to have a pretty good civilization going.

The centuries later "Generation Ship" that visited
them seemed to me to have picked a harder challenge.
