It might be even more interesting to know how Kepfield, the defense
lawyer, managed to tie the concept of "imminent threat" into his defense
argument in a forgery and theft case.
Now if he were defending someone accused of prematurely using force in
self-defense, I might understand the need, but forgery or theft?

The article explains this - he was defending a woman who claimed that
she only participated in the forgery under duress from the other
defendant.
