Somebody spoils McGarrett's birthday party, which included dancing from
Jenny and guitar-playing from Kono, by planting a bomb in the door of
McGarrett's car. McGarrett's life is saved by his retrieving a dropped
birthday present, thus being out of the car when the door closes (by
itself?). But the blast knocks him for a loop, and his vision is lost due
to the way he lands on his head (my theory, anyway). What unfolds now is
McGarrett's stubborness to work with the hospital staff, along with the
bomber (Robert Edwards) who now plans to finish the job in the hospital.
Marion Ross plays Nurse Lavallo, who is McGarrett's equal as a nurse it
seems. First Che Fong role for Harry Endo, demonstrating to Danno how the
car was rigged. Pretty fast conclusion here for me. This episode
actually appears "darker" than others from this season, or is it just my
copy? How come Danno and Kono didn't have the kid make a sketch of the
'mechanic' with a police artist instead of making him go through all the
mug photos? McGarretts sight quickly returns in the last few minutes due
to time being accelerated at the end. Could there have been a romance
between McGarrett and Lavallo? I say no, but thankfully we'll never know!
By the way, did all you all catch Chin Ho being in charge of the crime
scene at the beginning. That's a rare occurance, you know. The blast
from the bomber's device at the hospital, wouldn't that have injured the
two hospital workers who set it off--there was dynamite wrigged to it.
One more nit-pick: is it impossible to go to any college if you have a
record? I know a few people it didn't stop. The cars at the
"Westphalian" dealership are all Volkswagons you'll notice, which explains
the West German connection. I wonder who gave McGarrett the "polka
dot..." something (jockey shorts?) that McGarrett comments about when
leaving the Palace with the others.

The first episode where Harry Endo plays Che Fong is Bored, She Hung
Herself (rarely seen since it is suppressed because of the subject
matter).

As they say in the Hertz commercial, "not exactly."

Blind Tiger -- episode number 38, production number 0265
Bored She Hung Herself -- episode number 39, production number 0266

Excuse! Excuse! KVOS did not show Blind Tiger and I had to get it from
someone long after it should have been broadcast. As a result, I never
updated the reference in #39!!! ";-0

How 'bout we settle it this way: first expanded role for Harry Endo as
Che Fong is in "Blind Tiger" where he took up a good deal of the second
act where he demonstrates for Dan how he suspected the car bomb worked.
Amazing how he has it down exactly, isn't it?
In "Bored She Hung Herself", Che Fong is their briefly at the start of act
four, but that's it. By the way, has anyone out there actually seen this
episode aired, or are we all watching copies from the same source.

I heard that Mrs. Freeman told someone this episode is suppressed because
someone actually hung themselves after watching it a long time ago...

We're all watching copies from the same source.

I had suspected that there was a bit of "we are professionals -- don't do
this at home" about this episode not being seen in syndication.

And that's the case, sure enough. I was sitting at Mrs. Freeman's table
at the banquet, and one of the other fans at the table asked about this
episode. Mrs. F. said that it was because someone had attempted the trick
and not been, shall we say, successful.
