Harry asked Snape why her referred to Voldemort as "the Dark Lord".
Snape was interupted before he was able to give an answer.

The answer was never given.

I have learned that nothing ever happens by accident in the
Potterverse. What will the significance of this question be in the
next two books. Has Snape gone back to being a death eater.

I hope not. I happen to like Snape as a character; he is wonderfully
complex and I want him to stay wonderfully complex. That means two
things can't happen. He can't, all of a sudden, become a nice guy.
By the same token he can't stay a git and become an evil one. In
either case, JKR cops out and makes Snape dull.

Cheers
Andrew

They should just use Tom like Dumbledore did.

Indeed. Heh.

"Voldything" is my fave. Though "Lord Thingy" is pretty good, too.

No, no, no. Lord Thingy is bad, bad, bad. That's just Fudge not being able
to bring himself to say the name. He needs to take a leaf out of
Dumbledore's book (actually, he needs to copy the book!) and call him
Voldemort.

Maybe he should take a leaf out of Dumbledore's book, and call him "Tom." I
like "Tommy" myself.

To use the name Tom would take a lot of power away from Voldy. Tom is such
a friendly name: Tom Hanks, Tom Wilkinsin. Hermione's name sounds like
magic. Harry's name makes him the every-kid. Ginny's name makes her
endearing. Just plain Tom is not intimidating.

Yeah, that would be about right. Tom == irritating git. Not exactly
powerful, but very very annoying.

Only for those who have never read Wodehouse.

Do you think the Ginny might be short for Ginevere? Might explain all
the boyfriends.

> Just plain Tom is not intimidating.

Well, it is a bit. After all, people you know form your impressions
of the name. For example, I've never known a nasty Sally, but I would
never EVER call my child Sharon. However, I've talked to people who
have the opposite view.

Virginia. It's ironic.

"Yeah," said Harry, watching uncomprehendingly as Siruis and Lupin beamed
reminiscently. "Well ... I thought he was a bit of an idiot."

I think this has something to do with all Death Eaters.. has Malfoy ever
called
him Voldemort? and for that matter.. how many people really know he used to
be Tom Riddle? Perhaps its not a widely known fact?

<snip>

I somehow doubt it.. I think that he has to keep up appearances because
Voldemort
is back.
