I do not think in any way they picked a very good boy to play Harry Potter and
never have.
I don't have anything against Daniel Radcliffe. He was extremely cute when he
was picked and it's not his fault that he grew up rapidly afterward with his
voice changing.
But even at the time thay picked him, his chubby seeming cheeks in no way even
resembled the thin narrow faced versions of Harry Potter in all the
books---except perhaps Goblet Of Fire---when Harry's face changed dramatically
from all of the previous versions.
But with a little work, dying of the hair, they succeeded to make Daniel
resemble Harry to a certain extent.
However they could have succeeded better with at least a hundred or more other
boys.
When I watch the movies of Liam Aiken, I am totally blown away at how much he
resembles Harry Potter. With a little work, he could have looked even more
like Harry Potter does in the books than they made Daniel Radcliffe to look.
Having more experience in films, Liam is also a far better actor than Daniel,
who to me is seeming very unconvincing in the previews I am seeing.
Maybe I will feel differently after I see the movie.
Hoping so anyway.
I thought he was very capable... not the best (That award has to go to Emma
Watson playing Hermione - I've never seen so many people laughing in joy!).
What is interesting is that his mother is Sarah Radcliffe the casting agent
and his father is one also (I think). At any rate, his father knew the
casting director of the HP films as Daniel says in the Premiere Telecast
(available on countingdown.com)
I'm not saying that it was a complete stich up - Daniel's acting credits
are second to none for someone so young. But I can't help feeling that who
he knew rather than what he knew landed him the role rather than any of the
other potential actors.
I thought that, asthetically, he looked the part - especially the scenes at
the Dursely's.

This weekends Dateline Katie Couric special in the US had some interesting
words from Chris Columbus on the search for Harry. If you believe what he
says (and I have no reason not to), his parents were a hinderence not a
help. They knew what the role could possibly mean and had not allowed Dan to
audition for it. Chris Columbus saw him on David Copperfield and wanted him
and they persuaded his parents to let him go for it.

I'm not really here - it's just your warped imagination.
Welcome to Hollywood, Terry.
I thought Daniel made a wonderful Harry, myself. And if he grows a bit
much, he grows, I can live with it. I suspect Harry himself will get a
growth spurt at some point in the series, anyway - James Potter was
tall. So it will probably only be off in one film. Daniel had the
cinema audience when I saw it in the palm of his hand with that 'Make a
wish, Harry' and the early scenes at the Dursleys.
Rupert was fabulous as Ron, I would never argue with that. His
interaction both with Harry and with Hermione, was as perfect as I could
have hoped for, and I can't wait to see what he does with the next film
when we will get to see The Burrow.
Emma Watson as Hermione...well, I thought she was good. I can see what
folk are getting at when they say she appeared to be acting sometimes -
but I don't think that was a mistake. To me it looked like she did it
on purpose. The scenes where that could be said are the ones where
Hermione is being especially sniffy or bossy, and I think this was
Emma's way of portraying that. She actually reminded me a lot of myself
at that age.
Neville was good, well cast and I would have liked to see more of him.
Percy...well again, I'd have liked to see more, but I thought he was
good as far as his role went. Nobody really stood out as bad to me,
except Lee Jordan. I kept wondering if he was a girl, his voice sounded
so feminine. But it doesn't really matter - time will fix the voice and
it isn't as though he is a main character or anything.

*LoL* been there, didn't like it - came back to Blighty!
