He would do a good job, but I think he is to young. Moody has been retired for
a while, so the actor should be late 60s to early 70s.

Hi all, new to the group :)

Even though he's a Yank, how about Gary Oldman ?

If he could pull off a passable British accent, Ving Rhames would have the
menace and the screen presence to do it also !

With a bit of make-up, how about Vinnie Jones :)

A couple out of left field for you : P

Cheers,

Val.

start with! Time for a comeback from our favourite timelord?

You mean that thing he does with his eyes, when he sort of goes all
unfocused and flicks his glance around crazily? He does it every time. But
anyways, I don't see him as craggy enough for Moody, nor British enough, nor
cheap enough.

LOL! Did you ever see this trailer for "Father Ted"? I can't remember it
exactly, but it went something like this...

----------------
[The cast are rehearsing in the front room. All speak at once, reading from
scripts.]

Dougal: What's that then, Ted? What's that then, Ted? What's that then, Ted?

Mrs Doyle: Go on. Go on, go on, go on. Go on. Go on, go on, go on.

Jack: Arse! Feck! Booze! Girls! Arse! Feck! Booze! Girls!

[They continue in this vein while Ted addresses camera.]

Ted [in lowered tones]: As you can see, we're all hard at work getting ready
for the new series of Father Ted. Please join us at 10pm this Friday on
Channel 4.

Jack [breaking off into plummiest RP accent of all time]: Do you mind? I am
*trying* to find my motivation.

Ooo. I'd been thinking more of Irons as Lupin (yeah, he's too old for
the books, but they've got to cast him to be contemporary with Rickman
for the movie), but with some aging make-up, I could see this.

Of course, I can't see it as much as Connery. But that's just my little
hobby-horse. ;-)

My instinct is to say Irons is too old for Lupin, but he's actually a couple
of years younger than Alan Rickman. (And in any case, Lupin isn't as
well-preserved as he should be.) How old does everyone think that generation
should be? Rowling says Snape is 35 or 36, and I think Rickman just about
pulls that off, but then his face *is* plastered white.

However mentioned Jeremy Irons as Lupin, when you said it - it was perfect
in my mind. Thank you.. i just wish there was somewhere where we could all
cast our votes for who we'd like for the roles.

As for Ian McKellan.. umm... I don't know.. he's Gandolf in Lord of the
Rings, and that whole cross over thing.. i'm just not sure..only because I
thought he'd make a great dumbledore before I found out he was Gandolf.
Though McDowell would make a good Moody - I mean look at all the screwy
characters he's played before???

I've been doing some thinking on this and since Moody is supposed to
be older... Ian McDiarmid. I've always heard Moody with a bit of a
Scottish accent too. :)

Alas, he is with us no longer. But, for all his faults, I've a sneaking
suspicion that Sylvester McCoy could play the role well. He's got the
madness, the accent, the talent...

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Liam Neeson. He's super-tall.
A great actor. And the Qui-Gon Jinn long-hair + a little CGI or makeup
for the 'mad eye'. He'd be perfect.

He has a regular role in the "Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)" remake as
Wyvern ( he teaches Marty about being a ghost).

This is a genius idea - although he's a bit of an English institution
at the moment, and might not have the gravelly quiet presence that
would needed. All in all, perhaps, a little too lad-like, perhaps?

Having said that - I saw on thecelebnetwork.com that he's going to be
singing for the queen soon, so maybe family-friendly movies like Harry
Potter are the next step!

Marty Feldman, obviously! (He wouldn't have needed much eye makeup or
special effects, at least!)

Alastair Sim would have made a good Cornelius Fudge, though.
