9.1.98 7:55 EDT Boy Band The Moffatts Sign U.S. Deal
The Moffatts
A Canadian boy band called The Moffatts seem poised to follow in the
very large footsteps of Hanson and the Backstreet Boys. The Moffatts are
14-year-old identical triplets Clint, Bob and Dave, and their
15-year-old brother Scott. They started out as budding young country
stars, but once they hit their teens, their interests turned to
contemporary music.
The Moffatts released their debut rock effort, "Chapter I: A New
Beginning," in Europe late last year and in Canada this past June.
According to a spokeman for their Canadian label, the record has sold
700,000 units world-wide, spurred by the single, " I'll Be There For
You." Like the Backstreet Boys, the group's strongest markets at this
point are Germany and Canada with a nod to Asia.
The band's Nashville-based management agency has now confirmed that the
boys have just inked a deal with Capitol Records in the U.S. and will
have their album released in America either this fall or in early 1999.
The boys, sons of country singer Darlana Moffatt, have been singing
almost as long as they've been walking. Like their peers, the group has
been performing in front of hordes of screaming fans, including a recent
mall tour of Canada capped by a show in Vancouver that drew some 5,000
manic followers to an event described by the press as "pandemonium."
They're scheduled to begin a tour of Germany later this week.

You will here about them soon. This was under the MTV News section at
MTV.com so they must be ready to make a big debut within the next few
months in MTV is already mentioning them. Anyway The Moffatts are their
own band but if I had to compare them to anyone it'd be N'Sync more than
Hanson.

yeah, I figured out the guitar chords for I'll Be There For You by ear. They're the
same chords as in MMMBop, just written in the key of G instead of the MON version
in A.
I actually live in the town where the Moffatts originate from, Victoria, BC. My
teacher used to teach them.
:-) Wow- I actually have connections!! *hehe*
I've seen them in concert and they are really good musicians. I wouldn't really
compare them to Hanson, though. They're more like the Backstreet Boys or N'Sinc.

Nope. When I read that I went and found my Rembrandts cd and put the song on.
That was my favorite song for about a year.

I've seen them a few times on MuchMusic... They're okay, but they're no
Hanson... Not to mention the guys in the band just lack that... charisma that
Hanson have...

I went to their website once because Seena told me that someone posted on here
that they said they were bigger than Hanson on it. I wanted to point and laugh
at the silly blurb, but alas, I did not find it. You're right, I they
*definitely* lack Hanson's charisma. They're not shiny enough.
Maybe they need some good old fashioned hair bleach. ;o) Or not.

The only Moffats song I've ever heard was 'The Caterpillar Crawl' and it was
when they were still country. It was pretty humorous....it was on my
sister's 'Radio AAAHS' cassette. I hope they've improved.

I saw them do "the catapillar crawl" on the Sally Jesse Raphael show! That
was good for a laugh. (Sorry all the Moffatt fans). But they weren't too
thrilling playing country and their voices back then were way too nasely.

It is definitely possible to like both Hanson & Moffatts. Beyond the fact they are
teens, both have their own musical identities. Hanson is #1 with me, but the
Moffatts have some very enjoyable songs on their new CD. I predict they will make
a big splash when Capitol released it in the US. In person, they are quite easy to
talk to and do not appear to be charisma-challenged, but they are still a little
bit shy in front of a TV camera. That will change in time. They may become
Hanson's new competition, but I've never known Isaac, Taylor, and Zac to worry
about competition.

I listened to sound clips of almost all the songs on their new album on their
website, and I just... didn't like them. I had an open mind and everything,
but I don't know. They weren't deep enough for me I think. I mean, sure
Hanson has some light pop songs that are just "I love you, baby, you're all I
think about..." and that's about it, but those songs are *definately* in the
minority. All their other songs have lots of real meaning and emotion.
Besides the fact that I was not into the Moffatts sound, I just didn't feel
anything connecting wtih me as far as their lyrics were concerned. Hanson are
poets, not just musicians, and that's the truth.

OH I definitly need to argue this one! LOL

The Moffatts, IMPO, are more talented than Hanson ever was or will be. They
have been doing the music business longer, except took them a little longer
to find out what area they were best at. They have style, great talent
(singing and playing music),and are right next to Hanson on the "good bands"
chart and in my opinion are gonna move farther than ever... :o) MOFFATTS KICK

who cares about the Moffatts this is a Hanson NG. They may be consittered
"competition" to some but Hanson sure wouldnt see it that way. They are just
making music and so is Hanson. They might sell more records than Hanson one day
or be number one when Hanson isnt but who cares.
