You know, when I was there for Mayfest, it felt dirty to me. And the
people looked hard. By that, I mean calloused and removed, and more
flagrantly obscene. Even the people who were dressed decently seemed to
lack a softer edge that I find in my hometown. I just found it strange
that I live in Dallas, a larger city...but it was cleaner and more
gentle than Tulsa.
The graffiti there, a lot of it anyway, was religious in nature, also.
And I have never in my life seen so many churches. The per capita
church/people ratio has got to be high. Contrast that with all the
biker bars and more nightlife than we have in "Big D," and you have a
volatile mix of values. (Before anyone gets started, I'm not saying
that Bikers can't be deeply spiritual people.)
However, I was only in town for a few days...so it's only a short-term
observation. Just MHO. No offense meant to any T-town natives.

Steph will re-write this after visiting me in CA...I know she wil...hehe
I loved Tulsa, the people seemed real and kind(even the bikers) and the area
was much prettier than I expected. It was so much cleaner than CA, I thought it
was normal to have trash everywhere...it was like entering a parallel universe.
P.S. Steph--I loved Dallas too.

hehehe well... ok Oregonians are NICE.. But they are also SNOBS
But like.. the teenage boys in tulsa call all the women "ma'am"
that is so cool.
maybe, I thought the people in Oklahoma VERY friendly! Back in June we were
driving to Texas for vacation and when you would pass a car from Oklahoma the
person would wave to us. I thought that was nice. Very different from people
here in the area of Ohio that I live.

It depends on where you're from. I used to live in the same town as alex, and i
visited a couple months ago, and I was awe-stricken at how nice everyone was!
But thats compared to my stuck up new england town. Jess Rose has been here,
same with Han, you guys think have to admit everyone here is super pushy :-x

It's true.
My sister went to Beaverton High, she went to Law school in Eugene, and
whenever people asked where she went to high school, native oregonians would
say "ooh...I'm sorry."
however, compared to massachusetts, beaverton is supernice.
how sick is that?
ooooo two states i can actually compare from experience ;-) ohio is a very
weird state... northeastern ohio is even weirder... you have like... half the
state is country land, and the other half, college town. people will sell you
out for a beer and a good party. but i don't know if people are downright mean
here... i mean, there's a fair share of friendly people (except people working
in fast food restaurants. i mean, you go down to west virginia, and they're
all smiling and "you have a nice day now, ya hee-uh?" here they like, throw
their food at you, and say, please drive through... well, except this one guy
at our local taco bell who always tries to sell me one of those star wars cups
by being all enthusiastic about it... but anyway, i digress...)
i didn't mind the city of tulsa. the biggest stressers for me were the
weather, and the highways. it's like you have to take a highway to get to each
portion of the city, because it's the only way to really get there without
taking the dreadful back roads (jess and i took one that took us out into dirt
roads, with no life within miles... we were very frightened). i had gone to
tulsa just a couple weeks or so after the bad tornados that hit oklahoma, so
everytime it looked like it was gonna storm, i got quite worried. i did see a
few areas that looked like "the slums", although the slums of cleveland are
much scarier... lol as far as the people go, i actually didn't really notice
much of a difference between people here and people there. although i did make
a friend on the plane going TO tulsa, with this little girl who was going back
home. she was so cute... hehehe and chatty as all hell. i tricked her into
saying she was a hanson fan by pretending i was flipping through the delta
airlines magazine, where the pic of bob weir and hanson popped up. then i was
like, "aren't these guys from tulsa?" :oXXX hehehe she was like, "yeah" and i
asked her if she was a fan. she said she went to one of their tulsa concerts
the previous year. then she flipped open her own delta magazine to look at the
article herself :-) hehehe
anyway... er... yeah... i'mdonenow :oX

hehe they do that in a lot of towns down south, not just tulsa ;-) my mom

about once a year. the entire time i was growing up, my sister and i would say
"huh?" or "what?" cuz that's what we learned up here, ya know? but down there,
every time we would say that, my uncle would correct us, and go "ma'am?"
"sir?" hehehehe itneveractuallyengraveditselfinoursculls
im not quite sure that "super pushy" really describes your town, sim. in
fact.. "super pushy" just doesnt do it justice at all.id probably have to say
that the following describe it better: "on crack".. "full of the scariest most
horrifying people in the world".. "the bad place".. long meadow is like the
place where parents threaten to send their kids who misbehave.
hanna

HAHAHAHAHAHA
"ima send you to long meadow if you don't eat your vegetables, jefferson!"

actually... if you eat you're vegetables, we'll send you to longmeadow (its one
word dammit) to learn how to not eat them.
an insane amount of the girls in my school have an eating disorder.
people from surrounding towns hate us.
people joke about coming here to see the skinny girls in their expensive cars.
an all around terrifying place.

ok.. i guess its like.. you cant judge a town by one person.
a lot of people here are really nice. I mean you walk down the street and
anyone you see says hi to you even if you dont know them.
But still.. if you get used to it, you tend to notice the rude people more.
Well, you were probably downtown most of the time, correct? It's probably not
the best part of town. For example, where we went to eat at, Village Inn, that
area and on south is gorgeous. Most of the suburbs are really nice. Downtown
and part of north Tulsa just isn't the best part of town. Don't most cities
have a "bad part of town"?
>And the
>people looked hard. By that, I mean calloused and removed, and more

Um... How come I've lived here 15 1/2 years and never seen anyone being
"removed". Everyone seems to be the complete opposite, always butting in
whether it's good or bad...
>Even the people who were dressed decently seemed to

Huh? That's kinda...I dunno. This whole thread just bothers me I guess.

Actually when I was at the Blue Rose a couple weeks ago, I thought the bikers I
was around were nice. It's one of those "don't judge a book by its cover"
things.

I understand that, but I'm seeing a lot of...bashing of the city. Frankly, it
upsets me. I don't understand why I've heard Hanson, Admiral Twin, and many
others express their admiration for the town and this thread doesn't seem to
have any good words about it. I guess everyone's missing something the rest of
us aren't.

My mom lived here her whole life and was never in a tornado til she went to
Nashville. The chances of actually being in one are pretty slim.
I agree with Brittani.
You must live in a dreamland to think Tulsa's bad.
Yeah but they're so nice.. like any guys there will let any women get in the
elevator first.
and they always say "pardon me ma'am" rather than "move b!tch"
:D
we were out just past w.71st, i think. or maybe 81st. i can't remember. lol
it's okay britt, i even have streets in this town that i live in that lead out
to god only knows where. don't get so defensive, i'm not "dissing your

we had bad storms here last weekend, and i'm still scared they might come back.
sorry, it's a natural reaction of mine. you see storms create such damage and
there's not really anything you can do about it, and you get nervous that it'll
happen again. excuse me for being human...

i've just gotten used to it :oX

lol you know what city surprised me, when it came to like... crime and stuff?
atlanta... i expected atlanta to be like, this nice, friendly, clean city, and
my aunt's husband, who lived down there for years, was like, "make sure you
don't go on this side of town... someone got shot at that gas station a couple
nights ago... oh, and don't go here either, because the gangs hang out here...
and don't go..." blah blah blah...
i don't think i've ever been to miami. i did go to orlando once, though, when
we went down to disney world. we got stuck in rush hour traffic (VERY bad,
indeed) we were stuck there for about two hours... yikes...
ooh traffic sucks here...Miami has beautiful places (Miami Beach, Key
Biscayne..Coral Gables..etc)..but the bad places..are REALLY bad..my best
friend's dad..he got mugged twice, and once our car stopped (no gas..oops..lol)
right in the middle of..EVERYTHING (prostitutes..drug dealers..etc)..I was
serisouly thinking I wasn't going to make it.
OMG Jenn, I hated that too! There are highways EVERYWHERE to get to Broken
Arrow there were highways, We got lost once, but as soon as my mom saw the way
the high way worked we were fine. we got lost downtown, HAHA! It was fun! :-)

Larry, Beaverton is not as bad as Im making it out to be hehe
People are nice here.. really nice. its just that since i am around it all the
time i notice when people are rude.
And Beaverton is a suburb of Portland.
thats weird. i always thought that new england would be nice.
I think it is..i love CT and mass...and I have to admit, parts of Ri are nice,
but i love NH and Vermont..lol
