In a June 1, Not-a-Blog entry, GRRM gives us the following tid-bit:
"WINDS, you say? Yes, still working. Finally finished a clutch of Cersei chapters that were giving me fits. Now I am wrestling with Jaime and Brienne. The work proceeds, though not as fast as many of you would like."
I will follow my policy of assuming every word is true, while adopting a minimalist interpretation, so as to discourage possibly false hopes.
"[F]inished a clutch of Cersei chapters" is hopeful, in that it signals progress. But it does not necessarily signal page-count progress. These Cersei chapters may easily be part of the "hundreds and hundreds" of pages he wrote in 2020. Finally "finishing" them may involve significant revision, without necessarily adding to the page count.
How many chapters are in a "clutch"? At least 3?
"[W]restling with Jaime and Brienne" tells us little. Note that, though he did mention "Cersei chapters", he did not mention "Jaime chapters" or "Brienne chapters." I have predicted before that Jaime and Brienne will have no further chapters, and I do not yet have any reason to change my mind. But I expect they will appear in the story. Also, "wrestling" may imply vigorous activity, but it does not yet signal actual progress in this area.
