1906: GEORGE LYNN, who played the Mutual Transportation bus driver in
"The Deadly Mantis", is born in Cumberland, Mar.
1917: YUKO MOCHIZUKI, who played Minokichi's mother in the "Woman in
the Snow" segment of "Kwaidan", is born in Kanagawa, Japan.
1930: HIDEAKI NITANI, who played a hospital official in "Frankenstein
Conquers the World" and D-2 Project Leader Dr. Nakata in "Tidal Wave",
is born in Kyoto. The husband of Yumi Shirakawa, he was also in
"Mighty Jack".
1931: SAKYO KOMATSU is born in Osaka. He wrote, produced, and directed
"Sayonara Jupiter" and wrote the novels which became "ESPY", "Tidal
Wave", "Virus", and "Doomsday: The Sinking of Japan" and the
screenplays for "Matango", "Time of the Apes", and "Tokyo Blackout".
1940: TORU IBUKI, who played a pirate in “The Lost World of Sinbad”,
the short-tied assassin in “Ghidrah – the Three Headed Monster”, an
Xian in “Godzilla vs. Monster Zero”, Yata Kane in “Godzilla versus the
Sea Monster”, a henchman in “King Kong Escapes”, a Kilaak-controlled
staffer in “Destroy All Monsters”, and Tsuda the beared alien in
“Terror of Mechagodzilla”, is born in Fukuoka.
1957: "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" is released in Sweden.
1958: TOMOKAZU MIURA, who played Dr. Eiji Honda in "Sayonara Jupiter",
is born in Enzan, Yamanashi, Japan.
1959: FRANK DARABONT, who appeared as a gunner in the 2005 remake of
"King Kong", is born in Montbeliard, Doubs, France. He directed "The
Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile".
1967: MAHO MARUYAMA, who played Rie Aoi/Maria on "Birdman Squadron
Jetman", is born in Kanagawa, Japan.
1968: Episode 17 of "Ultra Seven", "Cave In", debuts on Japanese TV.
1974: MELODY PERKINS, who played Astronema/Karone the Pink Space Power
Ranger on "Power Rangers in Space" and "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy", is
born in Weisbaden, Germany. She also was the voice of Laser on "Power
Rangers Lightspeed Rescue".
1981: "The Bermuda Depths" premieres in the Philippines.
1984: Episode 50, the final episode of "Science Squadron Dynaman",
"Return to Battle", debuts on Japanese TV.
1990: Episode 52, the final episode of "Space Sheriff Jiban", "Final
Battle for Love", debuts on Japanese TV.
1993: ABEN KANDEL, who co-wrote "Konga", dies in Woodland Hills,
Calif.
1994: Episode 48 of "Five Star Squadron Dairanger", "Magnificent!!
Doushi Dies", debuts on Japanese TV.
EDWARD JAMES OLMOS, who played Captain Lopez in "Virus", marries
Lorraine Bracco.
1998: SHOTARO ISHINOMORI dies of heart failure at 60. He was the
creator of "Kamen Rider", "Kamen Rider V3", "Transforming Ninja
Arashi", "Kikaida", "Inazuman", and "Secret Squadron Goranger".
2001: "Kamen Raidaa Agito" ("Masked Rider Agito") premieres on TV
Asahi.
2002: KYOKO ANZAI, who played Etsuko Shiraishi in "Battle in Outer
Space", dies of liver failure in Tokyo.
"Avalon" premieres in the Netherlands at the International Film
Festival Rotterdam.
2003: "The Manster", "Destroy All Planets", and "Attack of the
Monsters" are released on DVD.
2005: "The Grudge" is released in Mexico.
"Garuda" premieres in Japan on DVD.
2006: Episode 31 of "Ultraman Max", "Burn! Planet Earth! Burn!",
debuts on Japanese TV.
