We can thank El-Vez for the war memorial in Hawaii. I do not
know the particulars. He either paid for, provided funding, or
was a major contributor to it.

This is my mother's birthday. She is seventy-two. I got her one of those
vacuum/seal a meal machines. She's exstatic. Happy birthday mom. BFS

Happy birthday to your Mom, Don.

My mother is 73. We had a bit of a health scare with her over the last
few months as she developed chronic bronchitis, atrial fibrillation,
congestive heart failure, and hypertension. With proper medication
everything is under control now and her lungs are clear and her heart
is doing well. Getting this woman to go to a doctor is a titanic
struggle. Only when she couldn't walk for more than a few steps due to
a sudden inability to breath would she consent to go to the doctor.
And she refuses to move in with me or any of my siblings because she
feels that would be compromising her independence. Fortunately she
lives within an hour's drive of me so I am able to keep an eye on her.

Yes, happy birthday to your mom, Don.

My mom is 73, too Pap.

They do put us through a lot but I know she thinks the same of me.

rpbc: Happy birthday to your Mom. Those machines are neat. Take care
and good health to both of you.

You know Pap in the near future,
an hour away will be too far.

We went through the same thing with my
parents. Two of the most independent people
I knew.
But in the end, for their own good, ya just got to take control. I hope
she's feeling better.

I've talked to her about that on numerous occasions. She has
acknowledged that at some point she will have to come live with me and
my family or one of my siblings (though they all - with the exception
of my oldest living brother - live in other states where it snows in
the winter and she hates snow). Her refusal to go to the doctor came
pretty close to being met with my taking legal control of her affairs.
She doesn't know about that. She still works full-time 5 days a week.
And yes, she is feeling better. Like I said in my previous post her
lungs are clear and her heart is doing well, and those are test results
from Monday of this week. Her blood pressure was still too high, but
her blood pressure is always higher when she goes to a doctor than it
normally is because she hates doctors. Hard to believe that someone as
sweet and patient as I am came from such a stubborn ill-tempered woman.

It's sobering to watch your parents growing old and worring if you can
take care of em alright.
Right now mom is mobile and in reasonable good health. BFS
