I had already heard about this from Steve Corbett, but here's the first
publicity on it from CBEM.

So much for the hope that furrydom's rep will ever improve. Now it's
becoming fodder for criminal TV plotlines.

I've grabed news of this first on some furry-related Yahoo! Groups I subscribe
to. Reading more about it at Fayrah.com, the murder victum is a guy in a racoon
suit, and the show's producers reported have real-life furries to help research
with the script.

I hope that the furries they've found are the ones who could give the public a
clearer picture than "ER" and the flopped "She Spies".

Probably the very same ones (which is probably how the CSI producers
were able to find them).

The story was to be about a coon who was killed, by other furries, all
in bdsm style
Sex fursuits... untill a fur accually got ahold of the show producers,
an they are now
rewritting the script.. At least it will not look like a furry is
something that you will find in a leather bar.

This is "CSI"...there has to be some obscure forensic clue that leads
to the culprit...so it might be:

Telltale (tail?) pawprints.

Ripped fibers from the victim's fursuit found on the culprit's person.

Bent whiskers on the face.

That ugly stain somewhere on the suit leading to the culprit's DNA.

That wasn't a bird suit...it was a Las Vegas showgirl wearing a

Worse and sadder a joke because less than 0.1% of furries will grasp that this is not good for furry and 99.99% of those that do

No one has any idea if any reporter will see fit to go deep cover, infiltrate, attend as a supposed furry, then bust it all open
worse than every before, but people more interested in their own selfish amusements won't likely think long enough to see past it. I
can hardly wait.

And we'll never see the slow train wreck that is furry ever being divorced from anthropomorphics proper. The former BFs can hope
as can many others, but it won't happen.

But if you want to find a silver lining, the Trekkies now have no real ongoing material to give them legitimacy, unless you call
Enterprise with their Vulcan ship ho legitimate, so the sicker and sadder corners of that fandom are now getting more notice. So now
furry vore is right up there with Trek slash. Yay...

FURRIES make it all about sex. More sex with less reproduction occurs here than in ten thousand orgies. And it would be nice if
some of it were wholesome fun sex, but people who claim to be gay but are still virgins(how can you not find a way to get laid in
THIS fandom?), people who claim to be straight and yet run away from sex at all costs(and cast nasty slurs at genuine females who
offer to loosed them up), people who can't get more than a quarter hard without artificial fur wrapped around it, etc., is not
wholesome. Furry is deeply fucked and the press and media are noticing it more and more.

Hey, check out THIS week's upcoming episode. Now they're gonna "jump the
shark" and give the Trekkies a brand new to fap over. The silver lining
on THAT might be that maybe they'll stop all that Kirk/Spock slash fic
and start doing Enterprise lesbo threeways starring Hoshi, T'Paul, and
biatch #3.

Too bad for furries tho. Schwartz STILL won't let Sheila & Sabrina do
any "tribble wrestling". ;)

I suppose this will have the same cataclysmic repercussions on my life as
the ER episode. i.e. I think one person mentioned it to me, and that was in
a completely neutral context (e.g. "There was a bit about plushies on ER"
or something)

Surpirsed I never saw these, but it's kinda sad to see the obvious
stereotyping that is being done about the furry community in this case.
If I was to make a film involving something like that, I'd rather play
it like it's a common thing, so I could have people in fursuits or
sections of their body in masks or tails and it would seem rather normal
to see it in the film's integrity than to just flat-out point to the
obvious and flaunt it for what it's worth.

There are times when I watch a Kevin Smith film like "Clerks" and think,
it wouldn't seem out of place if there were a fer furries that pop in
and out of the Quick Stop now and then. It just seems like it could
work perfectly if it defined what kind of universe exists in this film's
continuity and such.

uhm actually most people recognize that fucked-up trekkies are just a
small fringe element of star trek fandom
meanwhile most people think all furries are fucked up

hmm, btw , since im on the subject

so, do any of you motherfuckers have any idea what it feels like to
order a bunch of comics from one of your absolute FAVORITE independant
cartoonists...
get the comics in the mail yesterday ...
sit down read the first one immediatly..
its a little bit older - 2002
and its hilarious,
great all the way through..
then to your absolute HORROR realize that the last piece ..
the fuckign LONGEST one in the book - is one of the most mean
satirical takes on furry fandom, EVER?!

do you have ANY fucking idea what thats like????

all the blood drained outta my face
"fuuuuuuck..."

once i recovered it was pretty funny..and pretty fucking nasty too

i didnt email him about it ...cuz to be honest i dont want him to know
im involved in this shit (not that it would really matter)

and to be honest i dont have a problem that he did it either cuz i
dont feel his reaction was out of line at all, he was just making fun
of a bunch of fucked up maniacs
i think hes got the fandom "all wrong" (or maybe not) but whats the
point in trying to correct him ?

im not gonna fucking tell you who it is either (if you dont know or
cant figure it out), cuz i dont want you stupid motherfuckers spamming
up his email box with hate mail and threats or whatever the typicall
furry response is..

so instead im just gonna flame each and every one of you fuckers that
jump in my path until i feel better

By 'genuine', do you mean 'not bad looking at all' genuine or 'under
the delusion that a pair of false cat ears hides the fact that they're
over 200 pounds with at least %80 body fat' genuine?

Let's call a spade a spade here, Wayd. Some of the female specimens
you find at your average furry con would make just about any male with
a halfway-decent set of standards consider going 'up the down
staircase'.

I noticed that you didn't agree with his characterisation of Trek
fandom. My experience tells me that Wayd's rants about furrydom are as
much a generalisation as that. And the same thing applies, to a lesser
extent, to the broad brushstrokes from the likes of Brian Henderson. If
you want the reason for my attitude towards them, I'll refer you to a
previous post of mine rather than repeating myself at length:
http://tinyurl.com/oxnl . I'm aware that you arrived here via the
crushyiff forums, and that in this group, you gravitate towards
discussions with our extreme reactionaries. Out of curiosity, Mouse,
have you had a particular experience with furrydom that's coloured your
view?

Great, Something Awful. Funny for a while, but really, these days, their
stuff is a layup, so predictable you could set your watch to it. Making fun
of slash, that's terribly original. Making fun of furries, making fun of
ugly people. Never heard of that before! Be still my comedic heart. No, SA
aren't idiots, they're just very very tired.

You're such a sideshow, WAYD. Rag on all of us, but month after month after
month, you're still here, saying the exact same thing, to the exact same
people. You put more energy into furry fandom than I ever could. Same with
that Hirtes guy. That guy is a laugh and three quarters. Jesus Christ. You
guys are like an atomic clock. I could check out a.f.f in twenty years and
I'd put money down that the both of you would still be here. Still saying
the same tired shit. Still trolling for a reaction. Well, you got one more,
so put another notch on your keyboard.

I know one thing. Anyone who sits on a usenet group repeating themselves
over and over again, hating on the same insignificant fringe group, (and I'm
a furry, so I'm part of said insignificant fringe group) has got some
serious screws loose. What do you have to prove to us? We're furries! We all
suck, right? We're diseased! So why impress us? What actual purpose are you
fulfilling? Nice virtual sandwich board you got going here, Charlie. Repent,
the end is near!

I'm pro-hedonism. I'm pro-deviant sex, I'm pro-slash fiction, I'm
pro-anything that is a good time to someone and isn't hurting anyone. I'm
married to someone who writes slash. She does it because she ENJOYS IT.
Remember that feeling? Of actually enjoying things? I know it's not cool to
be enthusiastic these days. So help me understand. Does it hurt that bad
that other people enjoy something that you don't approve of? Do you lay
awake at night cursing our name? What's the deal? And don't give me that
clean-up-the-fandom bullcrap. You're not cleaning up anything, and you're
not going to. Furry fandom is a lot like America. Lots of freaks, idiots,
wierdos and fuckups, but it still works okay, it's still full of basically
good people, and I'm still proud to be a part of it.

No. That's rather hasty, We must ever be aware of the effect that our
actions have on others.
For example, I have seen that people sleeping around however they like
can lead to bad consequences, unwanted fertilisations and also STD's.

One must preach a culture of responsibility and organisation in order
that negative consequences be reduced.

If that ultimately must end with the goverment governing certain
aspects of how we interact with other people and laying down the law
about certain sexual practices (and it must). Then so be it.

I have looked at some of T3h Gh3y f|_|44y pr0n, and I thought "hmmm, I
think that's rather good" and indeed, I belive that one can certainly
have furry pr0n of merit, Since do we not have nudes that are labelled

Why yes. We do, Therefore there is nothing to my mind, which stops T3h

Okay, you want the answer? I can't speak for Wayd, but I know that
unlike all the others you loons have driven out of the fandom, I'm
sticking around to remind you guy just how messed up and sad you really
are. Time after time, one show or article after another is out there
portraying you guys as a bunch of dysfunctional loons, but you continue
to stubbornly hold onto your hunger to yiff rather than change. You
think that as you drive out more of the REAL furries, the freaks that
remain will continue to dictate what goes on in the fandom. You THINK
that all you have to do is ban the media from the furry cons, and the
problem will go away.

Well guess what? It's NOT going to go away. In fact, it's happening even
more frequently. Sure, you MIGHT attract some new recruits, but what
kind of a fuckjob is going to watch that Mtv special and WANT to join
the fandom. A pretty messed up individual, obviously. Another freak
joins the herd. Gooba gabba. One of you! One of you!

I *WANT* you guys to suffer. I *WANT* to be the one to remind you how
messed up you are. I *WANT* to be the one that goes "HAH HAHH!" and
dances like a crazed leprechaun every time one of you goofballs messes
up (Hi Jim), as you always do.

And when that blessed day comes of Furry Fandom's eventual demise, *I*
want to be the one that tamps down the dirt over it's grave.

It *WILL* be interesting to see that episode of C.S.I. when it comes
out, as well as the HOOT it's going to be reading all you fuckmonkeys
bitch, moan, and rationalise it away (just like you did with LOADED,
Mtv, Vanity Fair, etc.). Each time an expose of furry comes along, it
further educates the mundanes of the world to beware of you.

The "furry" episode of C.S.I. will come out, but you won't learn a damn
thing.

What's rather hasty? You don't know a thing about me! It leads to bad
consequences because you're not smart about it. Because I'm pro booze
doesn't necessarily mean I'm pro- drinking and driving, or pro-heroin.

I thought we all learned this in junior high. Safe sex, people! This is not
brain surgery, most other countries teach it earlier than we do.

> One must preach a culture of responsibility and organisation in order

I am responsible. I'm smart, and I protect myself. Apparently you equate
repressed and afraid of life with responsible. Don't drink, don't smoke,
don't smoke a joint, don't have sex unless you're married and it's with your
quiet and suggestible wife in the missionary position with the lights off
and the bible next to the bed.

The government already does this. No murder, no assault, no rape, no stat
rape, no battery.

But if you're got to tell me with a straight face that I can't have sex with
whichever consenting adult I choose, in the manner in which I choose, as it
harms no others, I'm afraid I'm going to have to show you the writing on the
wall. This country is going my way, not your way.

Whoo! Mikey, Mikey...I *want* to feel sorry for you, my word to God I do.

Get a load of this guy! How is it that the guy who puts more effort flipping
out about furries isn't as crazy as a furry? Who's more fucked up? gays, or
Fred Phelps with his GODHATESFAGS signs? You are aware that furry fandom is
becoming more mainstream, regardless of how many freaks join it, aren't you?

Let me explain something. In a few short years, the amount of people
attending these cons has about quadrupled. There's probably more freaks now
than there ever have been. But what is ALSO true is that the PROPORTION has
changed. And it has changed away from the fringe, and more towards the
mainstream, because the mainstream makes more money. it's still fringey, but
it's way less focused. There's far more teenagers who want to do clean art,
there's art selling at the art shows that is of professional quality, that
appeals to people outside the fandom as a whole, there's people who are
generally attracted to the less bizarre aspects of the subculture. There's
new blood, and the reason there's exposes is because it's a brand new thing,
and it's interesting to producers. It's news. NEW. Do you understand? It
makes good copy, it's visually arresting (fursuits and all that) and it
fills up some time on cable channels. I want that CSI show to go on the air,
even if it is negative, because there really is no such thing as bad
publicity. The more exposue furry gets, the more people join it. The more
people join it, the more mainstream it becomes. You can believe whatever you
want, but unfortuantely, I also have a brain, and I've been to cons
recently, and I simply do not see the things you claim to see. You see
dysfunctional loons, I see creative and talented people with a tight sense
of community. Maybe you were hanging out in the wrong crowd.

I'm not worried about freaks, because I actually pay attention, and think
critically about this stuff. And the real wierdos are being drowned out by
people who basically just like goofing off in costume and buying stuff and
doing all the stuff every other fandom does. I've had exactly one bad
experience with someone who associated my being a furry with being a twisted
freako. She was a former boss of mine, and was off of her anti-psychotic
medication at the time, and was fired for that statement, among a couple
other things. So even my company backed me up!

Enjoy your life, Mister Hirtes. Here's to 20 more fulfilling years of you
repeating yourself. Wear that sandwich board proudly, it must be working out
well for you.

i read through it quickly, ill probably go over it more in detail
later, but i guess i agree with you , but i think the problem is
larger, not smaller, than its made out to be

> I'm aware that you arrived here via the
> crushyiff forums, and that in this group, you gravitate towards
> discussions with our extreme reactionaries. Out of curiosity, Mouse,

> view?

actually thats incorrect
i think i stated elsewhere and i also sort of posted my origins on
crush yiff destroy when i first posted there, although i have refined
that view somewhat since
i started looking around furry dec 02 , whenever hirtes posted
something about crush yiff destroy thats when i went there and started
actually posting there instead of here....THEN later i started posting
here...ive been reading it almost the whole time. i can totally
understand why it looks like i came FROM CYD , but thats not the
case...i just finally felt that maybe i had something to say, or
contribute...hell i might up and vanish from ALL of this any day and
just go back to lurking like i used to. ill still be a customer at
rabbit valley and on furbid regardless ..who knows

my experience that colored my view is this:
when i first starting through furry stuff, i figured i would start at
the VERY beginning, as far back as i could possibly go
i read though miles of usenet posting once i started reading usenet
groups
when i started buying comics i bought all the old stuff i could
i tracked down critters, and all of captain jack , ismet, albedo, the
OLDEST of furrlough...just in general the oldest stuff i could find
because i figured that if im gonna be a member of a community that i
should take the time to understand it ...
the reasons that i thought the fandom existed for
the purpose i thought it was here for
is a pretty amazing concept , it actually was something special (IMO)

and look at how that potential has been squandered
its fucking disgusting

am i furry? i dont really know
it depends on what definition you use

im probably most resemble some furry/funny-animal zealot from the
early 80's
only im brand new

its really a terrible position to be in
it was my mistake for going about things the way i did

i went into furry's history and saw something i found completely
fascinating...if i would have first gone through yiffnet or furrymuck
or something like that i probably wouldnt even be here right now

look when you had professional animators in furry and comic book
creators actually in close proximity if not in the ranks of thier fans
like that...that dont happen that often

and look - they got driven off
along with everyone who has ever tried to do good for the fandom as a
whole, but the fandom never been greatful , instead its reacted with
hostility
i can understand , i can really fucking try to understand that a lot
of people dont want to hurt other furries because thier "different"
thats great, and look at how that acceptance was repaid
there comes a time to tell someone to "get lost"
it sucks but thats the way it is...especially if you value your OWN
reputation and the survival of your own group
shit i am such a fanatic about funny-animals that if i was a member of
a funny-animal fandom , i would constantly be thinking of what can i
do to improve things for everyone , or how can i contribute something
good, i would have the interests of the group way above whatever my
own personal desires or interests were

but look around furry ..what a fucking backwards mess it is
at this point i wonder if the fandom is completely totally beyond
repair
its impossible to seperate cartoon animals from furry
it would be near impossible to network enough people to form a second
fandom with stricter social controls, or at least an attitude/outlook
that would end up being more stable

all i can do is sit back and hope the next few waves of fans are
"normal" enough to drown out this lunatic wave from the early-mid
nineties
but as furry's reputation gets worse and more widespread...guess what?
the less sane people are going to want ANYTHING at all to do with
furry

what a goddamn shame

More mainstream? Oh yeah, that's a laugh. Dream on, funny boy.

Freakiness has a way of attracting likewise. After several years of
Merlino's agenda, it's no shock to see the genre getting more and more
mutants who hear about it. That's why it's a perverted shadow of it's
former self, and why the media cannot help but to talk about furry.

Actually, the freaks have become the norm simply because they've taken
over the genre and chased out all the REAL fans.

Being responsible can give one a happy life, not afriad or "repressed". I never
smoked, never had drugs, never had alcohol to drink, I'm deliberatly a virgin

*shrug* A debateable question, true. But I'll tell you this: I have friends,
family and people who love me. I have a tolerable and productive job that
nets me a comfy living. I have a middling talent for art, which makes people
smile, gives me a certain ammount of recognition and satisfaction, and
provides me with pizza money from the occasional commission. And I have any

Sorry to disappoint you, Hirtful one, but... no. When I attended MFM2002,
we had a lot of people stopping by to check things out. Some stayed and
bought comics, some stayed and talked with the artists, several wanted to
know where I got my tail.

When I went up Mt. Rainier wearing my tail, I got friendly smiles and
friendlier words. (And one sneaky Asian-American mother [literal] telling
her son a little fib about it... funny story.;) I had the security guard at
my last writers' convention ask where *he* could get a tail like mine, and a
sweet little girl said she liked it. (Ah, if she'd only been a lot
older...;)

We're not freaks, geeks, dweebs or whatever your "cool word" is this minute.
We're furries... fans of cartoon animal characters. We all like different
cartoons, and some of us wish we could be animals. Some of us feel like we
*are* animals, inside. But what we are is: Fans of cartoon animals.

I can't wait for CSI, when they mention how much a fursuit costs, and the
guy killed has a high-paying job in electronics...

So you're a majority of one, Mr. Hirtes. Right up there with Rev. Wildmon
and the Unabomber. Congratulations on joining the Lunatic Fringe, and I
hope you enjoy your stay.

It's unfortunate that he can't grasp that his problems are essentially
self-inflicted. It looks as though he projects his sociopathic attitude
onto others, and as a result, he fails to recognise that his own
behaviour is abberrant and is the source of his problems.

To fill in your blank expression, O hirtfully clueless one:

Bill Holbrook: Author and artist of Kevin and Kell (online), On the

Dr. Samuel Conway: By con a fur named Uncle Kage. In everyday life, a

Mike & Carole Curtis: Proprietors of a successful comic publishing house,

Terrie Smith: Successful illustrator, currently working on projects for

All of these have bearling mostly WITHIN furry fandom. OUTSIDE of it
however, they still have to pay for their groceries like everyone else.

Heh. Actually, I don't mind. Although he seems to have suffered from a

OK, I can see where you're coming from now.

However, as you are aware, others on this group have pointed out that
the situation on-the-ground has improved considerably since the low
point of CF8, and I can assure you that really is true. The contrary
opinion comes from our reactionaries who are completely out of the loop,
now.

Many of the original artists have left, but you'd expect that since most
people will only hold a hobby for a few years. It's worth having a look
at our new artists because some of the new work is very good indeed.

The media perception does seem to get worse, and that is irritating, but
despite what you might expect, it seems to have had little affect on the
balance of people joining the fandom. The problems have been due to the
likes of Rick Castro of Plushies & Furries fame, who after getting
cold-shouldered at the cons spent *years* searching out people who would
behave foolishly in their own homes for his cameras. There is nothing on
God's Green Earth that could have been done to prevent that.

We'll have to try to manage the media situation and hope that it gets
better, but even if it doesn't, it's still of little consequence other
than the fact that you now need to be cautious of preconceptions when
telling people about your interest.

the con scene is like than someone who actually goes to the damn things.

Of course. So who are all these reasonable normal people who enjoy the
fandom that show up? Who are all these people I see year after year at cons?
Do I dream them up? Oh wait, that's right, they're all actually freaks,
because some guy on usenet says so.

And what exactly was its former self? Is this where you pull some fandom
revisionism and try and convince me that one guy invented the whole idea of
furry as a fetish? Go ahead and tell it to me. You've probably told it to
dozens or hundreds of others. But it's bullshit. If it wasn't one guy's
agenda, it'd be anothers. It's an easy thing to fetishize, it's no big
stretch. People fetishize everything under the sun.

This oughta be good. Hook me up, dude! Tell me the line. What constitutes a
real fan? Above a certain age? Below a certain percentage of porny furry art
that one enjoys? Or did you have to attend some specific con? Or do you just
have to be one of those people who talks about how cool it was "back in the
day"? Let me guess, you can't show any enthusiasm for it now, because it's
just not cool anymore, right? Being earnest about anything is never cool.
Because I've never heard that line before, no sir. I didn't hear it when old
sci-fans bitch about the kids and their Star Wars, I didn't hear it from
aging punks, and I didn't hear it from Seattle club goers in the 90's

I just don't get any static, man. It's hot air, it's a persecution complex.
Other lud furries on Usenet like yourself have bought the line. it's good to
feel persecuted, because then you can band together, pull out the
us-versus-them line. That tired old saw. Most thinking critically minded
people, when confronted with same, understand that there's a gamut. I'm not
denying that there's wierdos. But hey, this is fandom. The wierdest people
I've EVER met weren't at furry cons! They were at standard sci-fi/fantasy
cons. Furries can't touch them by half. We just have more visible
components. Art and costuming will always beat say, slash writing, because
it's visual and easily digested.

But you want to bitch about furries so that's what you'll do. It's your gig,
so enjoy it. And you'll do it for a long time to come, and the rest of us
will enjoy the community, and occasionally peek on usenet, as I'm doing now.

"Is that MHirtes guy still there?"

"Yep."

"Still pissed off and rattling on about furries being freaks?"

"Oh hell yeah."

> > The more exposue furry gets, the more people join it.

Well, no shit, sparky. And not to mention the first Klingon president, or
the first skatepunk president, or the first goth president, or the first SCA
president, or the first punk president...

When I say mainstream, I don't mean mainstream like Mom and Apple Pie (tm) I
mean more mainstream than it was last year, and closer to more established
groups of wierdos like anime and sci-fi fans. There's simply not that many
furries, but there's still new blood. I remember some guy who was the
equivalent of you a couple years ago, on this very usenet, was flipping out
because there was no new blood, that Furry would just get more and more
freaky because the core would get older and older. And lo, an insurgency of
teenagers started to discover Furry, and that's no longer a problem. Now the
problem is that it's big enough that it's breached that threshold of
mainstream novelty so that TV shows like ER and CSI can do a riff on it.

But somehow, national media attention makes furry LESS mainstream? Check
yourself, pal.

>
> > You can believe whatever you
> > want,

>
> Okay, I will. Good thing my POV is the majority one.

Funny, I don't see the majority of people berating us. I see...you, and a
bunch of guys on Something Awful, and a few snarky people at Norwescon.
That's about it! Please, by all means, tell me the sky is falling some more.
I remember when I first started plinking about on AFF, years ago, there was
some guy like you. Then there was a different guy, also like you. And now we
have you, and maybe in a few years, there'll be another guy, like you. All
saying basically the same stuff, with varying degrees of insistence. You're
more of a smartass than the last couple guys, but I guess you just gotta
wave your arms more to be heard above the din.

You know what the majority POV is? You ready for it? Here it is:

"Huh?"

That's the majority POV. Because people don't give a shit. Most have never
even heard of it. Even if they have seen something in the media, their
response is limited to "Huh. Wierd." Occasionally furry'll get one or two
lines in some hipster alt weekly. Generally a zing, to be sure. But then
they move on to the next one-liner. But that's not that exiciting, and
there's nothing to complain about, right? Can't get anyone to pay attention
to you that way! Much more fun to wear the sandwich board and holler for
people to repent.

This is why moderates don't get radio talk shows. The guy with the rational
point of view is the most boring guy in the world.

Really, the biggest enemies of furry are other geeks. Geeks need their
pecking order, see. And geeks are VERY aware of furry, because all geeks are
aware of other similar subcultures. The goths hate the ravers hate the star
wars fans hate the star trek fans hate the anime fans hate the furries....
and on and on it goes.

Not going to say, but I can assure you it's terribly boring.

Listen, you seem to have a cool thing going here, milking attention and
selling your line to people. I'll stop distracting you with my terribly
boring moderate views. You've got no use for me, I know. Hopefully you'll
find a way to make money off this thing you do, sell your story as a book or
something. Maybe get on one of those shows you complain about. Otherwise,
the capitalist in me asks, what's the point? I suppose there's always the
love of a good spectacle.

Funny how that happens when your entire Cosmos is only big enough for
yourself and nobody or nothing else. Just like the lunatic fringe of
furries who can't wait to strut their stuff on MTV or Vanity Fair...

That's why Hirtes hates them so much. They're just like him (only
seen in the mirror) and he does not share his universe with anyone.

yea im sure they are out of the loop, but if things are that much
better than why is the media not allowed back in ?
they last they saw was all the freaky shit, then all the cons are
closed to the public

so what, you just wanna leave it all to thier imaginations whats going
on inside?

"the media cant be trusted" ..so fucking what .. if they lie about
something or make something up ..thats thier problem
do you realize how bad it is when a news source loses credibility ?
if media is let in and they then make sure its well documented that
they did that (although theres the little issue that now furries deny
everything even when its true ..so any denial about a story coming
from furries is going to sound like bullshit - thats another fine
predicament that furry has managed to get itself into)

its a catch-22 everywhere you look for a way out

anthrocon seems like its not that bad ..that florida convention that
those pawpets guys were doing - that was totally restrictd to
g-pg-rated content wasnt it? i mean that would be a good one to let
the media in, but unfortunatly now, the media would have to create
something bad about it because if they are sent to cover a furry
convention its gonna be for "bizarre sex" article
plus i get the impression that those pawpets guys are terrified of
having thier reputation tarnished so im not surprised they keep away
from media and stuff

furry also makes no effort to build bridges to other communities
so it becomes more isolated and more fucked up

these guys that try to sell furry comics and regular comic conventions
are doing the right thing...the ones that set up panels at sci-fi cons
i mean if a furry comic is really good, ya furries will like it - but
furries will also liek mediocre furry comics...why wouldnt something
really good try to be promoted to general public - who cares if it
doesnt succeed..theres no effort and thats worse

otherwise your just going to wind up with a fandom that isnt welcome
anywhere..which is practically becoming a reality as it is

just wait till hotels decide to start cancelling contracts with these
conventions
i think it would have been better if all these new furry cons that
popped up this last year INSTEAD worked on getting furry stuff in
already existing non-furry conventions

the problems are not going to solve themselves, furries themselves
have to actively do something about it ...i see very few attempting to
do that

this fandom has been around since the 80's and there is no central
'fandom news' type of zine or anythign like that like other groups
have
its ridiculous
theres hardly any part ofthe fandom that carries any real known
credibility with anyone
no main resource that the media would go to , no 'pillars of the
community'
so instead when they go to foxwolfie or ostrich , who gonna dispute
that that is what furry is about ? the fandom has no long history to
show that that isnt the case

most of the time theres nothing worth talking about anyway

look when the furry news-sites get interesting - when furry fandoms
gets totally trashed by some media entity, thats the only time people
discuss the fandom ...and it hasnt been intelligent discussion since
the burned furs were around (and even then it didnt look good)

other than that its all filler in between
