Novel? I picked that up from talking to SCA participants. It's no
secret that the biggest concern of many divisions of the Society for
Creative Anachronism is to discourage creative anachronisms.

radicals, the lifestylers, the burned crowd and the thought/clothing

reporters telling them how the Pennsic War is just a big gathering of
people fucking and the SCA is a sex club. Of course, if there were
such individuals in the SCA, they would likely have the tar beaten out

TV, but from talking with folks at SF cons. "Festival Sex" and all that.
Of course, they've got big burly-men with "fairsome weepons" to keep the

From what I recall from past conversations with SCA members, the
concern was that there were a number of sub-groups within the SCA who took
the term 'creative' far too literally. The SCA was intended as a romantic
recreation of life from earlier time periods, not as a springboard for
fictional medieval settings. That is, they were trying to recreate life
from Shakespearean times, or from early medieval Europe -- not Middle
Earth, Aquilona, Barsoom or Xanadu!
