Attention Everyfur...

Peter Da Silva has set-up wonderful SPAM-FREE furry newsgroups and I would
like to do my part to help bring furry fans over to this wonderful system.

First, I have linked all of the newsgroups on my Furry Newsgroups link page
to news.fysh.org so that anyone with a decent news-reader and web-browser
can have access to them. (news.fysh.org is a public news server, you don't
need to sign-up first.) The Furry Newsgroups page is at
http://www.mlinks.com/furry/links/FF_UUCP.htm for your viewing pleasure.

Second, any new furry posts I will post to the appropriate fur.* newsgroup
as well as cross-post it to the appropriate alt*furry* newsgroup. I ask
that you all do the same. If you post a new message to alt.fan.furry or
alt.lifestyle.furry, for example, also cross-post it to fur.misc or
fur.lifestyle even if your provider does not carry them, they will
eventually find their way to fur.*. Also set the distribution to "fur"
(lowercase) or put "fur:" in the subject.

Third, I will participate in any furry discussions on fur.* that I can
intelligently respond to. Some discussions will only be on fur.* so don't
only cross-post over from alt*furry*, come and check out fur.* personally
if you can.

My hopes is that the fur.* newsgroups will become the main discussion area
for the furry fandom and we'll leave the alt*furry* newsgroups to the
spammers. It kinda sounds like a Missions Statement doesn't it?

Well, that's all fine and good for most people, but what about us who
have anal servers who refuse to carry any new newsgroups? I know that
Netcom won't carry it, dispite requests. Some of us still need to be
able to get their furry news... please don't leave the ones who can't
get it behind :(

I subscribe to Netcom and although nntp.ix.netcom.com doesn't have
access to the fur.* groups, you CAN reach the news.fysh.org server from
Netcom. Pull down the File menu, select "Open News Host. . ." and type
news.fysh.org into the box. Voila! You're THERE! And I'm headed over
there! :)

Well, I've figured out how to get there from Netcom, so, as they say,
"There goes the neighborhood". :)

I've been subscribed there for two weeks and I've seen a combined
total of 6 postings in the entire FUR.* heirarchy. Have I not been
getting posts or is this heirarchy still being developed?

Hi,

It looks like I only get the cross-posted articles here. If fur.* is
send out, it problably stops somewhere .... :-(
Is there a way to get a feed from someone?

Regards,

Ronald.

I'd like to see more stuff in the fur.* newsgroups too, but that doesn't mean
we have to, or should, abandon the traditional furry newsgroups to the
spammers. What will everyone think who decides to visit alt.fan.furry to find
out what "furry" is all about, and finds it taken over by spammers? At the
very least our FAQs ought to be posted there.

They did, and got no response. Further investigation revealed there's
apparently no way to get a feed in Oz at the moment anyway.

You should also be seeing the images from my web page showing up in

Hmmm, is there no site near the westcoast of the US? Networkwise, .au is
about as far as you can get from here so I don't think feeding from here is
an option except fur.* only and for a limited time until there's a closer
site.

If you are not stuck with a single news-server, just point your news-reader
over to news.fysh.org, that's what I did... And you can also link directly
from my web-site at http://www.mlinks.com/furry/links/FF_UUCP.htm if you
have Microsoft News or other comprehensive news-reader/browser.

By "here", do you mean fur.config, alt.fan.furry, or alt.lifestyle.furry? I
wasn't aware that there was any spam-canceling in the old furry groups, but if
there is, I agree you should continue the practice.

If you have a real shell account and not some sort of menu, try this:
(ksh or bash)
$ NNTPSERVER=news.fysh.org tin -r -f fyshrc
(csh/tcsh)
% setenv NNTPSERVER news.fysh.org; tin -r -f fyshrc

If that works, you can make it into an alias in your .profile or .cshrc .
