This is real, you may contact Dwight Dutton (myself) at home if you have any doubt.

Evidently it happened late last night of an Anurism, it was very quick. Phil Morrisey is the main point of contact at the
moment but details of how this is going to be handled are sketchy at the present time.

Further information as I get it. This is for real, call me on Roz's phone if you doubt this is legitimate.

Oh, dear God. It's true.

I've already confirmed it with Fred Patten.

I'm absolutely stunned. I can't believe it.

Furry Fandom and the SCA have both lost one it's brightest people,
not just a talented artist, but a true Gentleman in every sense of the word.

I'm at a loss for words...

I heard about this at 2AM via the muck...The Hoard mentioned this on line.
We found out that the local SCA barony had alerted those concerned. We
were Surprized that the milwaukee SCA had heard early this morning. During
our numerous calls we found only two who hadn't heard the news. Safe bet
the SCA will turn out in swarm for his funeral.

It is a tragic shame that this happened. The fandom has truly lost a great one.

We'll surely miss you Willie.

I'm not real familiar with the gentleman in question, only through some of
his art that I've seen, but I sympathize deeply.

It has seemed to me that the past few weeks have simply been filled with
death. An acquaintaince of mine on FurryMuck is currently in the hospital,
dealing with the final stages of a terminal illness. Something which
surpised me greatly when I heard about it; I'm now wishing I had taken the
time to know her a little better...Now Mr. Wallace has passed on. And of
course the two recent deaths which got so much press coverage...

It's extremely unsettling...

Not to seem insensitive or anything, but what are some of Mr. Wallace's
works? As much as I'd like to, I don't follow the fandom too well, due
to time constraints.

Although I didn't know him, my heartfelt condolences go out to all those
who knew him.

I had never seen his work until today, when I arrived at an SCA event. I was paying troll,
and a portion of the table was dedicated to his memory. Even in the little bit that I saw,
it was clear that we all, furry and SCA, have lost someone remarkable.

I'm especially sad that I only learned of this man through his death.

My deepest condolences to those who knew him. And to those who haven't seen his work, the
best way to pay respects may be to find some of his work, and enjoy what he contributed
during his life. I know that's what I'm going to do.

This is sad news, indeed. Mark was a very nice fellow and a very
enthusiastic fan (I remember how happy he was when he got to meet
Stan Sakai at CF8 last January). Perhaps the best way to remember
him is to try to focus on any fond memories you have of him.

I met Mr. Wallace at an SCA meeting a few years back. He was indeed one
of the best artists, and the best storytellers, that I have ever had the
pleasure to meet. He will be sorely missed.

Fare thee well, Lord Blackfox, wherever thou art.

*I do not know who Mark Wallace was.
*I have never seen any of his work.
*I am not as affected by the news of his death as most of the other furs
here.

It bothers me to hear about some dying- someone well-known- and finding
myself completely unfamiliar with his or her achievements until it's too
late. I never got into the Replacements until I learned of Bob Stinson's
death. I didn't pay much attention to sports stars like Reggie Lewis until
they met untimely, tragic ends. And Robert Mitchum? I hadn't even seen one
of his films. I suppose it's a classic case of not knowing what you've got
'till it's gone. Shame I had to hear about this guy only via news of his
death...

First Stephan Peregrine and now Mark Wallace. *sigh*

This saddens me a great deal... I had only just met Mark through our
mutual friend, Phil Morrissey, at CF8 this year. We'd discussed working
together at some point in the future and when I found Phil's message on my
machine today, I was literally stunned. I'd always liked Mark's work, and
he was as fun and jovial a guy as one could hope to meet.

For those of you who may not have heard, Stephan Peregrine, artist of many
a Furrlough cover and short story also passed away this July of a heart
attack. I am currently making plans to honor his memory in the next issue
of Furrlough, as soon as I can clear it with his wife. Stephan did the very
first cover to Furrlough, as well as the final Antarctic Press cover, and
was also an incredibly nice guy. Even though he was a gifted painter, he
was amazingly humble about his work, always hoping that someday he'd "Get
this comic thing right". I never got the opportunity to meet Stephan in
person, and I am very sorry I never will get the chance.

The field has lost two very talented artists, and I for one will miss them
both very much.

Roz here this time. This is indead a terrible loss for furrydom and the
SCA.Mark Wallace was a long-time member of Rowrbrazzle, where I first saw his
work in 1986, and has been a valued and enthusiatic member of Huzzah for some
years. Issue #27 was just mailed this week, before we got this news, but
hopefully #28 will contain rememberences and tributes by people who knew him.
Although I'd only met him in person a few times, we shared mutual artistic
respect and a friendship of joint apprieciation of good furry art and stories.
What makes this even more sad is that he just seemed to be getting his life
back together after the death of his mother and a long period of unemployment.
As Billy Joel said; 'only the good die young.'

For the benefit of the younger fans who were not acquainted with
Mark or his work.

Mark Wallace, also known as Lord Wm Blackfox, was the artist, and
co-creator of VIXENS' KEEP, a strip about a ladies fighting academy in the
medieval lands of Warthaven; it ran in an SCA newsletter specifically
intended for the lady warriors of the Society. He was also the creator and
wit behind the WARTHAVEN strip set in the same millieu, which ran in
practially all of the rest of the SCA newsletters, and which he more than
generously reprinted in his contributions to HUZZAH and ROWRBRAZZLE over
the past decade and a half. He'd also pencilled a few issues of EQUINE THE
UNCIVILIZED (which was where I first discovered his work) back in the mid
eighties, and, to my personal delight, contributed a three-page finale to
my FELICIA book. And I can't imagine how many other pieces of work he must
have done that I'm not able to credit.

When furry fandom first coalesced during the early eighties, Mark
was already there with Warthaven. He was a skilled cartoonist, avid SCA
participant, and a most enthusiastic fan of furry art, books and people.
He also had the most amazing knack of making you feel as though you were a
lost brother or sister whenever you got together with him; he was one of
the most genuinely courteous and friendly people I ever hope to meet in
this life. He was the absolute professional, and was always pleased to
offer advice if asked, and to critique work that was shown him; he was
tough, but always fair, and damn nearly always right; and he never lagged
in giving encouragement.

There is a very vivid of Mark's personality locked in my head now,
that I will never let go of, of a man with a big heart, a sly wit, a keen
eye, a talented hand, an overbrimming enthusiasm for life, and a fond
affection for big-breasted women. More than anything else, I'm going to
miss his booming Oklaholma voice, and his huge handshake.

He was a Peer and a Gentleman.

My condolences to everyone who knew him and loved his work. I did
not know him well, but have read his stories and strip. They, like himself,
will be missed. In a week where FurryMuck has lost one of its more loved

(Micole's fur sighs into a shade of charcoal grey, the khromat color of
mourning.)

Mark was a friend of mine who I met through an APA we were both in, and
from mutual friends. Whenever we ran into each other at conventions it
was a joy to see him... our size differences made it look even sillier
when he gave me a bear hug. He had a booming voice and a laughter that
would wake San Andreas. His art has life and vividly depicts the SCA in
it's glory and jocularity.

I've only heard of his name, in a reference to a "foundation" of the
fandom, but not knowingly seen any of his works. I think it would be
appropriate for somebody intimately familiar with him to create a
webpage as a memorial to him, one that post-dates his achievements and
work, and loudly announce it here. I would be interested to know what
I've missed.

He's obviously loved here, and this news has stricken the sympathies of
many people.
I offer my condolences to his friends and families, and any who's lives
have been brightened by his existance.

I bet he's having tea with Mother Teresa right now, looking down,
realizing just how much he was appreciated...

Mark Wallace, aka Lord William Blackfox, now belongs to the ages. While I
never met him in person, his letters to me showed a man of great
intellect and charm, as well as a man who truly enjoyed life. His
attention to detail in his drawings, and his stories, with plot twists
and exciting turns, are truly enjoyable. They will now be deeply
cherished. Tonight (Tuesday, 16 September) is a full moon. Wiccan or not,
please light a candle for our friend and say a few kind words, and find
comfort in the knowledge that as long as we hold him in our hearts, and
maintain the high standards he had for his work, he remains with us.

Hail to thee, Lord William. May the Goddess hold you in the palm of Her

I found out somewhere it to be Oct 28, 1952. I created a simple black bar
to place on my web page. Simple, yet appropriate I thought. I never knew
him. Met him just once. He was one of the talents that I really admired.

Sunday evening, after finding out, I pulled out my copy of "Vixens Keep",
and re-read it. Then I turned to the foreward by Mark, and made a note of
the sad news. *sigh* Goodbye, Master Blackfox. I'll miss what might have
been the most.

It still leaves me stunned. After seeing him at a Pennsic, and at CF8,
rembering his work in Vixen's Keep, Warthaven, and Equine will always be
cherished pieces now more thn ever. I only met him briefly, but he was one
of the forces that got me interested in "Furrydom" and reinforced my love
