Now normally the skunks that come and visit the porch at night to eat cat
show are called Flower. But we have a new young one that I've met twice now
and am working to tame. (Meaning he won't spray me if he sees me. The other
skunks are that tame. I've even petted one on the head by mistake)

This young guy is all black except for the tip of his tail and a fright wig
of all white. It looks like he stuck his finger in a socket. I call him
Bigwig, after the famous rabbit of WATERSHIP DOWN.

Last night, he was drinking from the water bowl and one of the cats startled
him. I've seen our skunks waddle and hustle, but never jump before. Over
and over, he jumped, leaving little wet skunk footprints. But he didn't
spray. I talked to him (from behind the door) trying to calm him down. He
finally stalked off. I think he might be the offspring of one of our female
skunks.

Flower, the female skunk still visits. And last week, I saw a sight I
haven't seen in all the years we've lived on the farm.

I went out and Flower the Skunk and Mickey the Possum were eating together,
side by side. There was less that two inches between them. Carole thinks
that all the feral animals regard the porch as a neutral ground, since
there's always enough food there.

As opposed to one of your male skunks?

One would presume that he is the offspring of both one of the male and one
of the female skunks.

Unless he's the Mephit Messiah.

Believe me, I don't look under their tails to check. I have no idea what sex
our two skunks are, I just think of them as each particualr sex.
