Question as to the American past time of cock fighting

I have heard of this American past time of the cock fighting.

But when I have looked it up I see pictures of roosters fighting.

I am confused?

Yes.

I used to live on the Texas-Mexico border and cockfighting is very
popular there. A Mexican-American friend of mine raised fighting
cocks and showed them to me once. I asked him whether the losers got
eaten, and he said that they are inedible because of all the drugs and
steroids they are pumped-up with. Still, it's not hard to imagine the
loser being slipped into somebody else's dinner.

BTW, Isn't there a precept in Hinduism concerning the value of right
action as opposed to wrong action, like not cross-posting spam to a half
dozen different groups?
