My wife is finally completely moved-out.
Thankfully though, this time I'm seeing her a lot.
It took some hassle; but she's finally getting her financial help from
the county and state that she was when living in an assisted-living
home. So, even though she's now paying all of her own expenses for
apartment, health-insurance, food, clothing, utilities, etc., she's
probably quite a bit better off living in the Senior Apartment than
she was having somebody else care for her.
Of course, *I* am not there all the time to watch; but she has the
cell-phone and can call me anytime. It only takes me about seven to
ten minutes to get from here to there. Yeah, it's only about two
miles; but response-time isn't any more instant with me than with Fire
or PD. Still, it's not that bad either.
Monday before last she called and asked me to take her to the doctor.
She was dizzy. She wanted me to take her down to the ER; but her
local clinic and personal physician were right down the street (about
a block and a half away ... another good thing about moving from where
she was) so I took her down there; and they got her right in. They
ran some tests, took an X-ray, and couldn't find anything wrong.
Tuesday and Wednesday she was feeling better; and had more energy than
she'd had in a while. I took her shopping; and she walked all over
the store just fine.
Then Thursday things went to pot.
She called me and (again) wanted me to take her to the doctor. Only
THIS time she couldn't get out of bed. It was all she could do to
reach for the phone; and she had a heck of a time even calling me.
The place she's in has those emergency-call-strings in the bedroom and
bathroom; but she didn't notice the one in the bedroom.
I went over; planning on wheeling her down to the car and either to
her local doctor or the ER. However, she couldn't even sit up in bed.
She screamed when we tried. (Her friend had arrived at the same time
I did.) Her vertigo was THAT bad. If she couldn't even sit up, then
I couldn't very well transport her in my car. So, we called 911, and
the ambulance took her down to the hospital.
Again, they couldn't find anything specific wrong; though they LOOKED
at a lot of things. CAT scan of her head, tests of her ears, a dozen
or more blood-tests, etc..
She just got better; and I took her home Sunday.
The doctor wanted somebody to be with her 24/7; so I stayed over at
her new digs for a couple of nights. Awkward; because now all of MY
stuff is over here; and all of HER stuff is over there. I had to grab
changes of clothing, toothbrush, and other stuff ... and have had a
difficult time getting online; but I managed to bring her home for an
hour or so each day while I caught up.
Wednesday she had an appointment with her heart clinic for an
angiogram to see if she had heart blockages similar to those she'd had
about five years ago; and that might explain her tiredness.
Well, she did ... a little bit. One of the stents she'd had put in,
in the past, was about 70% blocked; so they stuffed a new one inside.
So far, no enormous signs of greatly improved stamina; but then it's
only been a little over a day.
She's STILL dizzy though. It's intermittent and they've given her
some medicine (Meclizine) to take "As Needed" for the dizziness.
Nobody has any idea of WHY she's dizzy.
After the new stents in her heart, they told her to go on a low-sodium
diet. This is a PAIN. Everything that's decent for a single person
to eat (easy to fix in small portions) seems to be just LOADED with
salt. When just ONE TV-dinner has 3/4 of a day's recommended salt
....
Then a can of beans has half-a-day's supply.
So, last night I fixed a low-sodium stir-fry which wasn't bad; but not
nearly as good as when I add soy-sauce or Teriyaki-sauce. Still,
fairly good as low-salt meals go. Again tonight I took HER recipe for
goulash and made a low-sodium version. Tasted rather bland. (I added
about 1/8 teaspoon of salt to MY bowl; and it tasted pretty good.)
We then went through Wal-Mart looking for easy things to cook that she
could eat. Damned little selection; but we did find SOME. So, now
she's got to see if any of it tastes worth a ....
We got some "Mrs. Dash" and a no-sodium salt to help.
Reading the label on the salt-sub, We've got to check with her doctor
to see if it's OK for her to use instead of salt. Should be; but ....
Since she has an appointment for follow-up on the heart work on
Monday, we'll ask him then.
Her appointment with the oncologist is in late June. They're THAT
booked-up. ;-{
And, that's about it.
Oh yeah ... She wants ME to do the low-sodium bit too ... And the kid
as well. Cut DOWN on the salt ... OK. I'll probably be a lot more
careful now. Cut down to where SHE is trying to go ... Probably not.
I like a little salt in my food; and without her around I'll probably
be eating a lot of prepared meals instead of making food for three of
us.
