Bet you neveer even noticed I was gone.

Today three women from the Probation Department came round and
collected all of my computers ... and my kid's and my wife's.
Thankfully, none of those are being used right now.
If the kid comes back and wants the computer though ....
The also collected a handful of thumb-drives.

Don't know what they were/are looking-for; but I think it was trying
to find any erotic material like porn or sex-stories.

I'm supposedly not allowed to have anything "explicit" in the house or
on the computer.

Well, the computers are as clean of such stuff as I could make them.

Still, who knows WHAT they'll object-to.
Maybe some jokes or cartoons?
Heck, maybe they'll object to my having more than one computer; and
keep all the rest.

Rest?

Yeah, they DID let me keep this particular pile-o-crud.
It's a "laptop" about 15 years old, and just with a Windows-2000
installation is so full that I can't even run updates. Not having an
installation-disk for that system, I can't even re-install a clean
system. Sucks royally.

Well, I DID manage to put Agent and Eudora on it.
THOSE don't need installs; just a little disk-space.
Took me most of the day to do even that. ;-{
Tiny screen is giving me a headache; and no connection HERE for
hooking up the regular monitor.
Thankfully, with a single USB-port, extended to four-ports, I can hook
up the Internet, email, and a full-size mouse and keyboard.

I also have a fairly decent editor already installed on the machine;
so I can keep things like my grocery-list, address-book, and other
stuff up-to-date ... and even (again hopefully) print them through my
local net.

Well, I'll try anyway.

I keep watch here and at AC, so I know you're still around.

It sounds to me like the prosecution is not happy and is trying to find you
in violation so they can lock you up while waiting for your case to be
resolved.

Must be a real bummer for someone like you to be relegated to an old comp.
I sometimes wish I was back to my old pc. I hate this one and have little
or no idea what to do about it.

Hang in there and be careful.

I'm suspecting something similar.
Luckily, I've just finished going through everything on those
computers for about the fifth time. Nothing there, except for one
*possible* text-file in a .ZIP file I hadn't noticed, on the main
laptop. Not even sure it's there; but I told them it *might* be; so I
wasn't hiding anything. It's HARD to find and remove ALL documents of
ONE kind that you've been working on for two decades, while NOT
removing work-stuff and legal-stuff and just plain other-stuff that's
not in the same category.

It *helps* when most such is in one main directory FOR that stuff.
Most.

That's why search-programs were invented.
I think I did pretty good.

But, not knowing exactly WHAT they're looking-for, who can tell?
Maybe it's just my having several computers?
Since I WORK on computers, and even make (a small amount of) money
doing-so, it's hard NOT having pieces around.

I also support the kid's computer; and it's in the house too.
(Though I cleaned IT of all porn and sexy text-files as well.)

The woman SAID, they'd examine the computers; and then I'd get them
back. Yeah, right!

Even in the original indictment, they took a bunch of stuff, like my
wife's computer, found nothing ON them ... and they STILL have them.
Not mind, that they'd be worth a damn now, after all these years.
"It's evidence."

>Must be a real bummer for someone like you to be relegated to an old comp.

This one really SUCKS.
It's old, it's slow, it has no memory, it has no disk-space.
I can't even run Micro$hit upgrades and fixes. No room!
The screen is only 800x600, and TINY ... Smaller than most tablets.
I wanted to play some of my music ... And the thing only has the
*original* "Media Player". I can't even install a later version;
because ... again, no disk-space in the system-drive.

Well, I can't be TOO ungrateful.
They DID leave me this piece of C***, and I CAN get email; and now
Agent for newsgroups ... Mainly here, Callahan's, and alt.humor.

>Hang in there and be careful.

Am ... Have-been.
Which makes me wonder just WHAT they think they're looking-for?
Real porn? CP? My stories? Something in my email?

Perhaps they think I'd be loading CP on the computer; and now they can
"get me" on that, since they don't need a warrant.
There ain't any.
There ain't any real porn of any kind.
There ain't any sex-stories either.
Not even my own. ;-{
I can't even write or read my own thoughts.

Actually since there hadn't been any posts since last October I
was preparing to paint, redecorate and rent the group out.

You can buy good used laptops and desktops cheap at thrift shops and flea
markets. I saw a nice laptop with XP, a DVD burner and wireless at a thrift
shop just before Christmas for $72. Almost bought it. Wish I had.

I laugh when they say someone can't have access to the Internet, a computer,
etc.. You can easily buy a new or used wireless laptop and get on the
Internet through hotspots with absultely nothing tying it to you. Stay away
from old haunts, don't use old known IDs. Don't use any credit cards, etc.
online. If secrecy is really needed, locate a safe drop spot where you can
leave it and pick it up unseen.

Found out LEOS are using facial recognition software to track people. My
half brother got into some trouble 20 year ago. Because of being on the
registry he can't ge a job. Work as a temp. He told me about it.

As far as grocery lists. I never use them. If I did, I'd keep them on my
android phone.

Glad you're back and okay. Hope you can beat the bastards for good.

I've been checking back too. I hate what they did to you. There's nothing
you wrote that hasn't been in one of those Japanese anime mags.

My guess is they are hoping to find something they can use to revoke Frank's
bail and jail him. Probably bugging the prosecution that he is out on bail.
They
want him to do some time behind bars because they know Judge Sand's ruling
will be overturned on appeal.

They say they've found something.
What, will be interesting to find out.
They might be coming to pick me up today; or just call me in.
Who knows?

In any case, I've been preparing all yesterday, just in case.
I might not see any replies.

Oh Oh, I have a hard time believing you would download anything
that would endanger your freedom. I assume you've notified your
lawyer.
Best wishes it's easily explainable.

Never said they didn't confiscate everything.

Although I do not reccomend it, it shouldn't be hard to keep a computer safe
from discovery. There are two rules:

1) Never do anything to attach your real ID to the computr.
2) Never go back to sites you used to frequent and post anything that would
constitute an identifying characteristic.

Doesn't your computer broadcast it's serial number?

If the computer is bought used, like in a thrift shop or even new with cash
retail, what good is the IP/serial number?

True, if you always access the Internet thru wi-fi hot spots. Anonymous
dial up or broadband connections are almost impossible to set up these
days. One can use TOR but if the exit node is compromised one is
screwed.
I only asked because I use on-line banking and had forgot my laptop
when visiting my daughter out of state and when I tried to access the
banking website with her computer, I was challenged with security
questions. The bank picked up that I was using a different computer.
I follow the NSA snooping controversy and recently read at eff.org
that they suspect that the NSA has linked into the major broadband
carriers and is scooping traffic as it reaches the carrier and would be
collecting IP addresses.

It'd do that if you tried to access it with a new computer. But I'm talking
about never doing anything that could be traced back to you.
