Hi Folks,
My name is Kerry. I am a FZ fan & was lucky to have been tagging
along with Eric Buxton & Rob Samler when they were invited up to hang
out with Frank, I believe it was in May 22, 1989 & I was just an ass
hat 18 year old chicky lala, but I must say that day has so far been a
MAJOR influence on my life & I'll never forget discussing music, world
trade (imagine if you will, a really AMERICAN 18 year old girl
learning that not every bleeding gash around the world had the option
of using tampoons & maxi-pads & having Frank enlighten me as to where
the term "on the rag" came from) & being privy to a small tour of the
Zappa abode (this here is the UMRK, this is the vault, this is the
lawn jockey Ahmet beat the living shit out of...) & just having the
time of my life with a musician I truly appreciated & got to know the
man on a level most FZ fans never would. Today would have been
Frank's 68th birthday & it makes me a little sad to know that he's not
still with us. I made the mistake of rewatching videos of his last
interviews & as I am currently battling with a really shitty, nasty, &
brutal autoimmune disease, I recognized the illness & pain he was
masking when being the wonderful host he was known for being.
Although, there was one line I really wish I could take credit for
when he was being interviewed & being ragged at about smoking:
"tobbacco is my favorite vegetable!" Right on Frank! With all the
crap those of us who are fighting an illness have to contend with,
smoking is often the least of our worries: matter o' fact, lemme light
up a coffin nail & give Frank a nod... Mmmm, chemically treated
tobbacco goodness! Hemmingway, I am hoping to reconnect with Eric
Buxton, Rob Samler, Gerry Fialka (the guy who stuffs envelopes) & Lawd
hab mercy on him & lettem' still be alive: Josey Psychotic. One of
these days I'll take to typing out my memories of the best day of my
life that most never heard about for you fine folks, but I'm off to do
some fun shit, like feeding the cats, walking the dog & listening to
my favorite Zappa albums. I hope all of you had a Happy Frank Zappa
Day.
Kerry
