The oddest variation on a Verve label I've seen was a copy of 'Absolutely
Free.' It had to be a early-1970's re-issue, but instead of a blue or
black label with the grey cursive 'Verve' at the top with the 'thumbtack'
insignia filling out the lower two-thirds, this label was solid white with
the circled Verve logo normally seen on the cover of the album on the left
hand side, and with the late-60's/1970's modern-stylized MGM Records lion
insignia on the right side, with the album title and contents filling out
the top and bottom regions of the label in simple thin, black lettering.
The lower wraparound MGM address was the same Sunset Blvd-Hollywood
address used on their 1970's releases.

I've never seen another copy of any Verve album with this variation.
Also, I looked hard, and I didn't see a "promo disc-not for sale" insignia
anywhere on the album.

I've seen this version a number of times (though I don't own a copy), and
I've always been puzzled by it. I tend to suspect it's some kind of
counterfeit, but I don't know that for sure. It's certainly not a white
label promo; promos of the Verve MOI releases had yellow labels. Also
you'll notice a misprint on the label: one track is listed as "SONG Of
Suzy Creamcheese."
