at flea markets.
I think the last spate was pretty much all the Talking
Heads.

I don't remember that one.
When I buy second-hand records nowadays I am amazed about the old price
tags (when they are still on the covers). They were 19,95 Dutch guilders
for LP's (is 9 euro now) and now I can get them so much cheaper (from 1
euro upwards).
Collector's items are different stories of course.

When I lived in Burundi (Central-eastern-Africa) in the years 1982-1984,
we often went swimming in Lake Tangayika. Sometimes there was, in the
lake, a solitary Hippo some 60 meters from the beach making small
fountains from his nostrils and watching the people on the beach who did
not want to meet him swimming in the water. And sometimes (also on
December 25/26) at the beginning of the evening he (and his friends?)
would leave the lake and wander around and then you did not want meet
him in your car (Boiiing!).

last year i bought "zapped", a compilation album featuring fz,
beefheart, gto's, simmons, cooper, fischer, buckley, and henske and
hester, at reckless records in chicago for $10.00. even though i have
a turntable i haven't used it since i bought my 1st cd player back in
the early 90's. i basically bought it because of the cover and the
collectors value. before that i bought a couple of 45's from flat,
black and circular in east lansing. they were "dancin' fool/baby
snakes" by fz and "too much time/too much time" by beefheart. i think
i payed about a buck and a half for each.

It always amazes me that many music-listeners has chosen for CD and
completely abandoned their record-player/vinyl collection.
Why not enjoy both ?
I still play my cassettes from time to time.

By 1984 I had transferred all of what I wanted to hear from my 400+
Lps to cassette tape. Albums...too labor intensive! Had to turn them
ver every 18 minutes or so. Plus, space limitations prompted me to
see off all my vinyl in 2003. Never played them anymore & a guy
offered me a lot of $$$ for them. Now I own about 400+ cds which take
up very little space & are a lot more convienient to use. Also, I
cannot tell any difference in the sound quality that the analog vs.
digital people always discuss.

the price, but it was far more then the above 4. Worth every penny.
While I DO have a turntable set up on my stereo, I seldom play them.
..but will hunt anywhere for them.

There are hearable difference, and the can be heard even by old people.
The biggest mistake was just to transfer the old vinyl masters to cd
without remastering. Compare the following CDs in your collection:
- Led Zeppelin I II III and the same tracks on Remasters from 1990
- Hendrix before and after the re-release from the Hendrix Family 1994
- Apostrophe/Over-Nite Sensation from Zappa, the Ryko version and then
the AU20 version
Apart from the space required by vinyls, the biggest disadvantage is the
loss of quality: everytime you play an LP, the surface is damaged a bit
more.

When I decide to play records I don't mind changing them after 15-20-
minutes. Only with 45's I get a little uneasy.
And I think that I can hear the difference between analogue and digital:
analogue sounds (to me) more natural. And I love those LP-covers with
all the information you can read without a magnifying-glass !
Most of my regular Zappa's I have both on CD and LP and only when I am
lazy I use the CD player.

Ditto That! I love my TDK SA90s! All sound great! Now I've dubbed my
fves onto dvd-audio 6 hour mode for even more pleasure.

Because the place where the record player was was mainly
for the big TV there, so the record player gathered dust. And
the CDs pretty much stopped being used, too, except in the car.

by Nicky Hopkins because A) It was a dollar and B) I'd never heard it
and I wanted to. Sho' nuff, two days later it showed up for downloand
on emusic.com, but that's the last one I bought.

Zapped was a 1$ Warner/Reprise Loss leader. A series of 34 (LP's or
2LP's or one 3LP) very cheap (resp. 1, 2 or 3 $) promotion records to
get to know some of the artists of their label. There were 2 issues of
Zapped with different covers (the portrait or the "collage" cover) and
in Australia this same record was for sale as a normal Zappa issue. That
cover was a tiny bit different than the portrait cover.

It's a photo of Frank with retouched photos of others (GTO's,
Beefheart, Buckley, Henske and Yester). I've never listened to it,
just keep the cover displayed in my home office. I just made a friend
a frame for a signed album from Ray Charles, maybe I'll make another
for this, even though it's not signed.
