Oh for those quaint days of yore when we only had the military industrial complex. For it is now the military industrial congressional surveillance complex!!

When a reporter for the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command interviewed Frank Zappa for the commands news syndicate, the story was held by a superior who demanded that Zappa – who had been rather hard on the army – answer one more question: just who does he think will defend the country without the army?

Zappa’s reply: “From what? The biggest threat to America today is it’s own federal government…. Will the Army protect anybody from the FBI? The IRS? The CIA? The Republican Party? The Democratic Party?....The biggest dangers we face today don’t even need to sneak past our billion dollar defense system. They issue the contracts for them.” The interview was not run.

Not entirely true under the present circumstances.
Nowadays the federal government is just the second biggest threat.
With the next elections you'll vote the biggest threat back into power.
Bet?

The nightmares of our federal government go waaaaay beyond our two dominant political parties. That debate is just a distracting illusion. Both serve the same masters, and they sure as hell ain't us. I doubt they ever were.

When they fear each other, there is large society.
When they trust each other, there is small community.

I think this may be my favorite Zappa quote of all time. Thank you for
posting this TOG.

What is the source of this information? I would love to read that interview.

It's spread all over the internet in the last few months. Post zero

So. There is no other source then?

No way, Zappa is cool enough now that he gets fake quotes? Awesome!
First the symphony comes around, now other less accomplished fakers.

Charles have you filed a FOI request?

That does seem legitimate. The mystery continues. It does make me wonder
about the Zappa file on down Virginia way.

Along with my own, these days.
