Although I'm not sure if those are from the Japan tour, I think the
tour is in 1976. "Black Napkins" in "Zoot Allure", which contains
one of my favorite his guitar solo, is also taken from the Japan
tour.
Unfortunately, the tour is going to be the only tour of the MOI in Japan...

Ken (yeah, i'm from Japan)

I am a little bit puzzled because my CD booklet says that the "shut up
..." solos were recorded at the Odeon Hammersmith on 2/17, 2/18, 2/19
(1979?). The same shows which went on Sheik Yerbouti. What is wrong
here? Well, the Ship Ahoi cut on shut up is from a Jananese show. There
is one bootleg (Eyes of Osaka) with the long version of Ship Ahoi on
it.

I don't know where I read that fact about it being in Japan. I'll have to go
back and recheck. I think it was an FZ interview, but maybe before he released
the CD version of SUAPYG and hadn't carefully checked the sources? Hmm... not
likely, huh. I read it somewhere. That's all I can say.

Possibly one of the tracks on vol III was Japan - a lot of it is from
Hammersmith Odeon 17-19 February 1979. I have more info at home, if I can
remember to dig it out...

From SHUT UP...: [11] SHIP AHOY 5:26
Recording Date unknown
Recording Location Tokyo or Osaka (probably)

From ...STAGE v.3 (disc 2):
[2] HANDS WITH A HAMMER 3:18
... dates Oct. 31, 1977 and 1975 (month unknown)
... location ... (1975) Unknown concert hall
Tokyo Japan
[3] ZOOT ALLURES 6:09
... dates 1975 (month unknown) and ....
... location ... Tokyo, Japan ....

(And I quote): 'The first part of this edit is the only surviving
tape of the original "ZOOT" arrangement (from the same Tokyo concert
as Terry's drum solo).'

Which means, not only was Frank IN Tokyo, but important archival
material was recorded there. -- Ottis

There is a double boot CD from Osaka '76; I think it's entitled "The Eyes Of
Osaka". Haven't seen it around for a while - hoped it might surface on
a Beat The Boots III - if that series gets any further!

I telephoned the Rhino office in NYC to find out when
BTB III would be released. The answer I received was
that Rhino (at that point in time) had no plans for
any future BTB release. I think the problem was that
the average consumer was buying the releases, who had
no idea of what a bootleg is. Therefore, there were
numerous complaints to Rhino about crappy sound quality
and they dropped the series because of the bad publicity.
