Hey...just out of curiosity have any professional/nonprofessional estimates
been made of Zappa's IQ? I've heard estimates of Mozart's IQ being around 165
and Beethoven's around 180, and I wouldn't be surprised if Uncle Frank's was
somwhere up there in the stratosphere, given the flexibility of his mind in
subjects musical and otherwise. Any guesses/estimates?

I vaguely recall a Swedish article written around the time of FZ's death
mentioning his exceptionally high IQ. I don't know what this information was
based on.

i don't know but what ever it was i am sure he would had contempt for
it........like about the music wars in d.c. where he Clearly stated "I
TAKE OFFENSE to some guy sitting behind a desk in a suite and tie
making a judgement about how smart my kid might be based almost soley
on his age".
I would just venture to guess that from his understanding of music,
how politics worked, and his vocabulary, chances are his I Q was well
above average.

Totally agree. It is a book-person thing. (I am a book-person so I know.)

He was certainly an exceptional individual. Whether something as rigid and
simple as an IQ test could have detected that quality is another question.

Speaking as someone who sailed through the MENSA entrance tests and is also
well aware that he is 'Dumb All Over' - I find it hard to express my
contempt for 'IQ' as it is used at present. At best these tests measure a
tiny facet of human ability. And yet a whole industry has grown up around
them. IQ is at least as bad as Astrology when it comes to leading people up
the garden path.

Ahem - Sorry about the rant.

You're not being realistic!

You're being WAAAY too generous!... (unless, of course, you're
refering to "idiot quotient"--in which case, the number would be much
higher...)

p.s. And, oh yeah--regarding Zappa's I.Q.--"Your stinkfoot puts a
hurt on my nose..." uh-huh, yeah, right...

Let's say, what--ten percent discipline? Compared to ninety percent
filler, guitar noodling, blues and two-chord progressions, delegating,
and dumb jokes appealing to the mentality of three-year-olds. And all
of a sudden--FRANK'S A GENIUS WITH A SUPERIOR I.Q.!!!

People, people, people, as the GENIUS said, "You is not wrapped
tight!"...
