"Ruth... Napolean... Chester... 'Bird Legs'... George... Tom... Ricky don't
lose that number".
This caused me to frown in puzzlement. The possible explanations for this:
1) The show I have isn't, in fact, 11/23/74.
2) "Bird Legs" was used to describe both replacement bassists.
3) Michael Urso (or "Mike Urso" as Zappa calls him during the Tush Tush Tush
intro) was replaced midway through the show.
4) "Mike Urso" is somehow a joke pertaining to James Youman, who actually
played bass on this date.
Going through these possibilities point by point:
1) If my show isn't 11/23/74, it's quite the discovery, as the setlist
matches 11/23/74 song for song, including the rare,
only-played-once-in-fall-74 "Chunga's Revenge".
2) Possible - but E. Mick Youman, the younger brother of James Youman, also
calls him "Bird", and uses the term in such a way that it seems as if
"Bird" - and "Bird Legs" by extension - is a childhood nickname of James
Youman.
3) Almost impossible. Nothing escaped the onstage commentary of this band,
and I'd sooner willingly believe that "Andy" was written about Nigey Lennon
than accept the possibility that the Fall 1974 band completely passed by the
chance to rag on Mike Urso as he left the stage.
4) The only thing keeping me from believing this is the fact that "Mike
Urso" seems to be utter nonsense. Ie, I don't get the joke. Since there WAS
a Michael Urso who played bass for Rare Earth, perhaps this was a reference
to him - I could imagine, for instance, that the real Michael Urso wasn't
the most talented of bassists, and his fish-out-of-waterness was readily
apparent to those in the musical community - thus, lightheartedly poking fun
of the fact that James had to be constantly cued via Tom Fowler.
Does anyone else have any sort of light-shedding evidence?

If you listen closely to the beginning of More Trouble Every Day, you'll
find that there's an edit about 10 secs into the song. This is where the
real 11/23/74 recording ends, and where your recording switches from
11/23/74 into 11/27/74 (w/ Bird Legs). I have this version too, and it
seems to be circulating quite widely.

It's done pretty nicely - considering that the ear is much more forgiving
with audio bloopers on live recordings.
Honestly, some people...

Honestly, some fans are just as crazy razor blade maniacs as FZ himself was.
thanks for the pointer

Mike Urso was with Zappa on more than one occasion. He is in the studio at the
1971 CHUM Montreal radio show with the Mothers.
Doing alright
A little jiving on a Saturday night
And come what may
Gonna dance the day away
Jenny was sweet
Show a smile for the people she needs
I'm trouble, let's drive,
I don't know the way you came alive
News is blue (the news is blue)
Has its own way to get to you
What can I do (what can I do)
When I remember my time with you
Pick up your feet
Got to move to the trick of the beat
There is no lead
Just take your place in the driver's seat
Driver's seat, oohoo, driver's seat, yeah
Doing alright
A little jiving on a Saturday night
And come what may
Gonna dance the day away
Driver's seat, oohoo, driver's seat, yeah
Jenny was sweet
There is no lead
Pick up your feet, pick up, pick up
Pick up your feet, gonna dance the day away
Driver's seat, oohoo, driver's seat, yeah
Driver's seat, oohoo, driver's seat, yeah
Driver's seat...
THAT SONG SUCKS AND SO DO YOU. FA LYFE.
That was nicely nonsensical.
Thanks for your time
