Oh, that's nice. Look, I want to publically dis-associate myself from
that reply, which I think is in really poor taste. I did not say anything
about his privates. I just want to know how tall he was.
:( Suzy
Well, I just think it's rude to say things like that about a person's late
husband, particularly since it is quite likely that Mrs. Zappa might see
the message. I don't want anyone thinking that that was the question I
had in mind. I don't care about the size of his penis, never mind the
fact that that is probably a lie, anyway. I just want to know how tall
Frank was. Tall, as in the distance from the bottom of his feet to the top
of his head.
OK? Anyone know? At this point, even a rough estimate would be
nice...
Suzy
I can only judge from audience photos, live videos, and interview
videos... but I always guessed he was a bit on the short side. Look at
the headstock of his guitar in proportional relation to his head. You
can't count album and promo shots, (especially the Hagstrom poster), but
you'll notice that he usually is either right up front and "in the
camera" for group shots, or sitting down.

i think he was about 6 feet tall. this is what someone told me.
as for shoe size...well whatever shoe size a 6-feet tall guy wears...
his feet seem pretty proportionate.
(although if you believe the song "dancing fool"....)
btw, suzy, i think the guy that answered about frank's private parts
was responding to your call for "other stuff". i don't think it
was meant w/evil intent.

After having stood next to him, I would guess he was about 5' 9" or 5' 10"
tall.

I once lived in the same city as this Famous Groupie Person called Connie;
in fact we lived across the street from one another. Although I don't
think she would consciously lie, and seems to be a very nice person,
through the course of three or four conversations with her, I got the
feeling that she didn't quite have both sticks in the chow mein. I would
therefore recommend caution in considering her any kind of a 'reliable
source.'
I could be way off base here, but that's the impression I got.

After having stood next to him far fewer times (once, in '88), I would make
the same guess.

Suzy,
You obviously have not heard the Howard Sterns interview with Gail about
a week after Franks trip to the big sofa in the sky. He was asking simular
questions directly to Gail and she was cracking up. I guess it's hard for
you to fathom that the wife of one of the funniest men to live on this
rock would have a sence of humor as well.

This isn't to make an argument about what is or isn't appropriate on
the newsgroup, but the context and the manner of presentation both
make a whole lot of difference.
no, he was definitely not a 6 footer. Spence posted earlier that standing
next to him he would have guessed 5-9 or 5-10. I would be surprised if Frank
were any taller than 5-9. The first time I saw him in concert my first
impression was "wow, he's SHORT!". He's got such a huge voice (whatever the
hell that means in regards to Frank). I guess I just had him built up so much
in my mind I had assumed that "this guy MUST be at least 6 feet tall! maybe 7!"

I'm not sure I understand this thread. Haven't any of you seen the
cover of Zoot Allures? What do you think that is in Frank's pants ...
a Telefunken U-47?

Whoooo!! That cover gives me nightmares...I try not to look at it. Frank
looks as though he hasn't slept in about 5 years on that one.

I don't know, but check out the photos on Swiss Cheese / Fire! from Beat the
Boots and report to the newsgroup later. This thread will never die.

: Ok, so I'm curious... what's the poor taste part? That Frank had a small wee-
: wee? That some groupie was talking about it? That the DJ allowed the
: conversation to take place? Or that it might be best to allow Aunt Gail to
: comment on Uncle Frank's size and prowess?...
: see... I'm a real bad judge of poor taste (take for example my suggestion that
