I just finished reading Quentin Bell's biography of
Virginia Woolf. OK, what has this got to do with Zappa?

Well, Bell had taken pains to draw an accurate family
tree of Virginia Woolf's family which went back at least
three generations! Which, of course, got me thinking:
"Now why the hell can't we have a thing like this for FZ?"

We have all these biographies, or pseudo-biographies, and
not even one of them (to my knowledge) tells the birthdate,
for example, of Frank's dad! It seems to me that finding
out things such as these shouldn't be too hard -- and yet
nobody has done it.

So: I'm listing here all the facts I know and the ones I
don't. If you can help me fill in the details, please do
so!

FRANCIS VINCENT ZAPPA, JR. (i.e. Frank's father):
Who was his father? Who was his mother? When were
they born? When did they die? Any sisters or
brothers (birthdates? when did they die?)?
When was Francis born? When did he die?
Rose Marie was his second wife -> When did he marry
for the first time and whom (and when was she born
and when did she die (that is, if she has died))?
When did Francis marry Rose Marie?

ANN ZAPPA (Francis's daughter from his first marriage):
What is her full name? When was she born (obviously some
time in the 1930s)? Any other details about Francis's
first marriage?

ROSE MARIE (Frank's mother): Who was her father?
Who was her mother? Any sisters/brothers (birthdates?
died?)?
I'm pretty sure Rose Marie was born in 1912, but when
exactly? Is that her full name?

BOBBY ZAPPA (Frank's brother): What is his full name?
I'm guessing he was born in around 1946, but when
exactly? I know he's married, but to whom and when
(and when was she born)? Does he have kids, and if so,
what are their names and when were they born?

CARL R. ZAPPA (Frank's brother): What does the R. stand for?
My guess is he was born in around 1949, but when exactly?
Is he married? If so: To whom? When was she born? When
were they married? Any kids? (etc.)

PATRICE JOAN ZAPPA (better known as Candy Zappa; Frank's
sister): I know she was born 1951, but when exactly?
Is she married? If so... (etc.)

----

ADELAIDE GAIL SLOATMAN (Frank's wife): Born on January 1,
1945. But who was her father? Mother? Any sisters/brothers?
This may be overzealous, but: Who were her grandparents?
Their sisters/brothers? Birthdates? Deathdates?

FRANK VINCENT ZAPPA: We all know the basics. I know he
married Kay Sherman in late 1959, but when exactly? When
was Kay Sherman born? Is she still alive?
Frank married Gail "right before Moon was born" (i.e. in
1967), but when exactly?

MOON UNIT ZAPPA: Born on September 28, 1967.
DWEEZIL ZAPPA: Born on September 5, 1969.
EMUUKHA AHMET RODAN ZAPPA: Born on May 15, 1974.
(Is the order of those names correct?)
DIVA MUFFIN ZAPPA: Born on January 30, 1979.

Gail has a brother named Jay, who worked (works?) for the Zappas. I can't
remember exactly what he did, but I'm sure someone can fill me in.

The date is wrong. On a press conference on March 4th, FZ said that the fourth
kid was on its way. We discussed it here a while back, but I don't remember if
we ever settled upon a date. I think August was suggested. And Collin Pruitt
was going to ask her personally - did you get an answer, Collin?

Are Jay, Dunt, and Midget all the same brother? Guitar Player (10/95) says
Midget Sloatman was a guitar tech. Dunt was on the Petit Wazoo tour; he
fixed the problem with the tenor sax mike on 12/3/72. And he has been
married at least once, since "Dunt's ex-wife" is announced somewhere
(probably Roxy and Elsewhere, but I can never remember).

August was suggested. I e-mailed Diva and got no response. Perhaps Mr.
Pruitt was more successful.

I read somewhere...I think it was the Harry Pipco website) that Diva was born
sometime in August 1979.

She has a sister named Sherri. We met at the Florida Orchestra show.
She is a
sweet, wonderful person who seemed to appreciate the effort put forth by
everyone involved with the event. It was evident to me that she cares
about both Frank's music and the people that understand and listen to
it.

I managed found the following info at
<http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pit/2025/divas.htm>:

-->Diva Zappa was the last child of Frank and Gail. She was born on July
-->29, 1979. The youngest of the Zappa children, she has very rarely been
-->in the spotlight. She is starting an acting career with parts in movies
-->like "Children of the Corn 5" which also featured brother Ahmet. Diva
-->had her first speaking part in a TV movie called "David and Lisa." The
-->most recently movie I find listed for her is a movie called "Playing
-->Dead" which hasn't been released yet.

That date would seem to be pretty probable, eh?

Would that be an older or younger sister? I'm sure you didn't
ask her age, but maybe you can give me an educated guess...?
