EC also picked U2's POP as a favorite album, or at least many of the
individual songs on the album. Same here, I've never known an album to
grow on me more. I didn't like it at first (probably that Discotecque
song threw me off) ; but know, I can't stop listening to it.
Of course, I've have noticed a very strong EC influence on U2 since
ACTUNG BABY. I think they borrowed some of EC's persona to make
themselves seem less pretentious.Musically, the influence is really
strong. On POP, for example, "If God Will Send His Angels" sounds so
much like EC to me, it could fit well on All THIS USELESS BEAUTY.

could someone give a list of costello's favorite albums of the year in its
entirity? i'm curious to see what some of his choices are.

speaking of which, what are other people's favorite albums of this past
year? off the top of my head, some of my faves included Dylan's "Time Out
of Mind," Nick Cave's "The Boatman's Call," Steve Earle's "El Corazon,"
Sleater-Kinney's "Dig Me Out," Bjork's "Homogenic," Luna's "Pup Tent," Yo
La Tengo's "I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One," and Missy Elliot's "Supa
Dupa Fly."

also, fans of EC might want to check out the Bridge school concert benefit
CD that came out recently. it includes a nice live acoustic version of EC
doing "Alison" with Neil Young on backing vocals. Definitly a treat.

--I'd also like to see what other '97 releases EC approves of. :)

--As far as some personal faves from '97 are concerned, they are:

1.) Stereolab --Dots and Loops
2.) The Old 97's --Too Far To Care
(Interesting country-punk fusion. I saw 'em at Lollapalooza this year, along
w/ Devo,a nd they put on a *good* show*! I'd like to think that EC would
approve of their version of country music.)

3.) Radiohead --OK Computer (Okay, so it's a critic's darling, but I like it!)

--That's all I can think of at the moment.
