I heard from John Jorgenson -- this is what he says:

The IDEAL (and possible) EJ Band:

Elton...Piano & Vocals, OF COURSE
Bass...Dee Murray
Guitars...Davey Johnstone, Caleb Quaye
Drums...Charlie Morgan (hell, why not?)
Percussion...Ray Cooper
Keyboards...Guy Babylon
EJ bring back RAY COOPER to handle drums and "more animated"
percussion again!

BRING BACK RAY!

BRING BACK RAY!

BRING BACK RAY!

Does anyone read Charlie's homepage?  It is like John's Reports from the Road.  He talks allot about having to struggle through each show.  I guess he has bad back problems and is always taking something for it.  It seems like he is having a hard time handling life on the road.  Litlgina

actually this lineup is totally IMpossible. Unless the tour only played in Nashville (or is it Memphis?) where Dee Murray is buried. In either case, the bass line would be kinda weak.

Well, that was, as they say, MY bad. I always get confused...is Nigel Alive and Dee dead, or vice-versa, or are they both dead? What's the deal?

Haven't you seen the recent British feature film "Weekend at Nigels". Watch the
goofy antics of two wacky drum students as they drag their recently killed idol
around partys, concerts and all kinds of rock star situations. Nigel Olsson plays
the departed rocker and actually is propped up and able to play an amazing drum
solo at the Concertgeboew in Amsterdam.

All I can say is that I'm in shock that Elton would make such a big change
in the middle of a tour. It would be interesting to know if this was due to
a personal conflict or if Charlie was burned out. I got the feeling from
reading his diary on his web site that the long tour and long concerts were
affecting him physically and that he seemed to be wanting to have a break.
The fact that he didn't want the HBO show to go on after BJ took ill seems
to point in that direction. I sure hope that it comes out that Charlie had
some say in this decision.

Now, has anyone heard who is going to replace Charlie on the tour? Also, is
Charlie gone for good or just for the rest of the tour? If anyone associated
with Elton is reading this newsgroup, bring Ray in to handle the drumming or
bring in Nigel. To make a lot of people happy bring them both in!

"Recently killed idol"? PLEASE, let's not even JOKE about stuff like this.

Nigel was and will remain the best drummer that Elton ever had, and you all
know it. Mickey Dolenz? What an insult. I hope it's just a silly rumour.

Peace and drums,
gen

First, it would seem that folks are FAR too willing to believe
negative things about Elton and his relationship with his band
here. Everything I've ever heard indicates that he gets along
very well with the folks he works with, even with the occasional
well publicized emotional outburst. But if someone's physical and
emotinal well being is not up to the stress of the tour they are
right to think about leaving. This is NOT a easy gig.

> I got the feeling from

Doesn't this make a LOT more sense? Charlie not "fired" but Charlie
bowing out because it's just too exhausting a schedule. He's not
20 any more. The tabloid press might try to make something dramatic,
but I would think the fans would be a bit less likely to demonize
Elton at every turn.

> Now, has anyone heard who is going to replace Charlie on the tour?

Nobody, as far as I can tell, has said that he's not doing more
of the tour for certain. They are currently on a break, so they
may be hoping he'll feel better about it after he's had a chance to
recup for a bit. We should wait and see what happens instead of
letting imaginations run to National Enquirer levels. If Elton
brings in someone new, we will know when it happens.

Well said, Kim -
