I know this has been discussed several times on this NG, (sorry) but could
some please translate what this song means? Thanks.

Gina

Sure you can...I see Keith Richards' interviews translated into English all the time. ;-)

They put their medals on their sideboards, and they went back to their farms.

That God had saved the chosen few, and the devil took the rest."

Elton said in a UK TV show " Bernie and I get so fed up with people reading too much into our lyrics and coming to wrong conclusions, that we thought we would write a completely giberish song about nothing ", solar prestige a gammon was the end product and was included on Caribou, Elton added " people probably thought it was a gospel song because of the fish content "

Hope that this clears this one up for you.

This song really has no meaning. Although, if it had been released as a single
in 1974 it probably would have made the number 1 spot on the charts. At the
time, the religious fanatics raised a stink about it (something to do with
seven fishes), and they claimed Elton was the antichrist.

Translate from what language?

A friend of mine used to tell me it was in French.

It's just a bunch of words, in an order that may make sense a few words at a
time but never a whole sentence at a time. Almost all of them are English
words, but many have been misspelled to add to the "foreign language" feel.

Still, that cynic in me wonders how Ray Cooper managed to get himself mentioned
in such a nonsensical song, even while he was plotting how to get rid of Dee
Murray and Nigel Olsson.

This song is from Caribou. And it's actually an alien language.

My understanding of this song is that Bernie Taupin got tired of the endless
questions about what the meaning of "Take Me To The Pilot" was.......... so he
wrote a set of lyrics that were, in essence, gibberish..... normal words
purposely misspelled. This was supposedly aimed at all those analyzing
Taupin's lyrics.

Really, it doesn't mean a thing.

However, if you happen to have this song memorized.... AND you can correctly
spell them as Bernie wrote them........ then you might qualify for the grand
prize.... three days and two nights in the Looney Tunes Hotel!!!
