I like it too! That's pretty cool that this is the first time Elton and
Bernie are on an album cover at the same time! I could have swore I saw
Bernie hiding in the bushes on the Single Man cover..

Wow. completely love the album cover. one of the top 4 EJ album covers of
all time without a doubt (alongside Yellow Brick Road, The One by Versace,
Songs from the Website (Sam Taylor Wood)). Love it. Also - Elton John
said himself that Alan Aldridge was doing the artwork again but clearly
this didn't happen. Maybe the results weren't as they wanted. Anyway
what a great album. I've a good feeling about this album, perhaps this is
the big one.

I'm disppointed if that's the final cover art. Hopefully it's not an
indication of the style of the music on the album (country, for
example). It's Elton behind a piano (nothing original there), and
Bernie, seeminly unrelated, riding a horse. It's done in such a
country, western feel - that sums up how Bernie is these days, but not
really Elton. I was hoping for something with a little more interest,
inspired by all the songs on the album (much like the original artwork
was). At least a little more thought was put into the typography than
on the last album, Peachtree Road. That seemed to scream 'buy me, I'm
an Elton John album.' In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the typeface used
for "The Captain" is the same as the one used on the orignal album
cover (for the word "and") and for the track listing on the LP back.

I agree with James. Looks like a Photoshop job, where something completely
unrelated (a piano) shows up where it doesn't belong, and that's the only
thought behind it (besides putting the two men together, which is obvious).
I was hoping for something more elaborate as well. Hard to beat the
original CFABDC, but something more than a simple cut and paste Photoshop
job. And an unattractive color scheme to boot.

A person could even question if that is Bernie on the horse. And do we
really need to see Elton sitting at a piano? The entire world (fan or not)
knows that he plays the piano. I sure hope more effort went into the song
writing than seems to be the case with the album cover.

I'm not asking for a cover like the original. Just for them to put some
thought into it. It's not like they haven't had the time.

Yeah, but they've been going back to basics for 2 albums now - that was
the deal with SFTWC, then Peachtree Road. I thought it was supposed to
be about the time from 1970 to the present. Not hearing the songs, or
knowing the lyrics makes it hard to know what an appropriate cover
would be, but I can't imagine that's it.

It's hard to find really good cover art nowadays - I think you see it
pushed a little more with bands than with individual acts. The CFATBDC
cover art summed up how Elton had become a cartoon, a character - so
much so that he was branded on a pinball machine. Elton has now become
a sort of pop ambassador, and huge philanthropist. Bernie has become a
rancher. I think this could have been explored a little more visually -
the new cover art looks so similar to the single art for Turn The
LIghts Out When You Leave.

true, but in the Davey Johnstone interview in EEL, there is mention of a
difference betweet this album and the two previous albums:
1) There are more rockers on this album (there was none on PTR)
2) They worked more accoustic (bass, piano, guitar, drum)and 50% was live
recorded (there are not much keyboards, so the soft mellow strings and
violins are kept out...whoohoo ;-)). It's like they did in the seventies.
So I hope this one will at least be a little bit better than the previous
two.

I like the new album cover. It shows Elton and Bernie with some of
their favorite hobbies, pianos and horses. Bernie was "kind of" on the
cover of the original Cap Fan album since the front extended to the
back.

I was hoping for another "Where's Waldo" artwork like the Cap Fan album
where you can see new things in it at so many places. But, since many
people won't buy vinyl, let alone know what it is, that type of artwork
won't work well on a CD.

I just wish they wouldn't have mentioned Alan Aldridge artwork and get
people's hopes up for it.

One thing I don't like about the new album cover is Elton's dark
glasses. He has been wearing too dark of glasses in recent years. We
may as well call him "Elton Orbison". He doesn't need to hide behind
such DARK glasses.

Good point David, i think you might be right! Davey says that "The Bridge"
is about what you have to give up to get where you want to go. Maybe the
cover is showing Elton and Bernie having crossed the bridge?

I think he's standing at the piano, which alone gives the picture some
energy. I think it would be cool if the back cover had Bernie's face
and Elton's back standing at the piano.

Disjointed sums up the cover perfectly. Is it really that hard to get Elton
and Bernie together in the same place at the same time?

I hope we get some photos of the band for once and a lyric booklet. Not that
foldout crap that they did with SFTWC. I hate folding!!!
