Hi folks!
Thought some of you might be interested to know that
Mike Hewitson, (aka "Brenda") is not only Elton's valet, but a bodyguard
at his concerts. His name is at the back of Elton's Concert Tourbook.

Apparently he also takes the gifts that people hand Elton at the stage
and is in charge of the pen that Elton uses for autographs.
He is about 40 years old (not "too old and ill to go out any more";-)

In fact, I think he was the bodyguard standing directly in front of
me at Castle Ashby and Hylands House. He was guarding the stage.
This guy looked like a bodyguard, with a tough, unfeeling, indifference
to what was going on around him.

From the look on his face, it seemed he'd seen millions of people
enjoying Elton's music, who were just nameless faces, to him, watching
the same old show. Very few ever recognised again.

I felt as though he had some contempt for Elton's audience, from having
seen them 140 times in a year! Different faces. Same behaviour.
(perhaps all bodyguards are like this?)

Almost put me off enjoying the concert!

His demeanour was such that I felt a bit stupid doing anything "usual"~
especially standing up to applaude or singing along with a song.

He seemed quite different though, when I saw him up on the stage,
later on, when Elton was signing autographs and Elton threw his pen
to him and he caught it. He seemed efficient and loyal to Elton.
(would "take a bullet" for him)

NOT an old person, though, like Elton kept saying.
So, his comments about this "old" acquaintance, is still a mystery.
(He's got his own personal "inner circle" sense of humour, I guess:-)

If anyone has the Tourbook, check him out for yourselves.
At least fans can know exactly who Elton is referring to, when he says
the name "Brenda" ;-)

There are also photos of him in the book that came out in the 70's called
"Its a Little Bit Funny"

That's strange....I've always noticed Dennis taking the gifts
presented to Elton and Dale being the 'keeper of the sharpie'.

Please--try very hard not to be quite so literal. Elton's remarks concerning
Mike Hewitson is what is known as "ironic humor"---and depending upon the
delivery of said humor--the term sarcasm is also applicable.
At any rate, no public reference to "Brenda" by Elton John is applicable to
you---no matter how badly you wish it and still hopefully imply it.

If the message I just responded to was NOT written by Brenda, I apologize.
However in reading aforementioned message, one finds the manner of writing, the
expression of subject matter, even down to the over use of exclamation points
screaming, "written by Brenda Henry." Especially considering the writer's
continuing incredulous disbelief that Elton would refer to Mr. Hewiston as
"old, feeble, etc." when he isn't and still finding this person with the
"Brenda" reference a "mystery."
Gak.

Melissa, it's "you know who", rest assured. The header info checks out.
Perhaps eltonjohn.com could introduce us to Mike Hewitson and explain his
position in serving Sir Elton then the Brenda of this newsgroup could find a
life.

Me too. Maybe that's Mike's job in the UK and Europe.

Ya know, I was thinking the same thing when I read the original posting about
Mike Hewittson. Hmmmm, thought I, this sounds like Brenda. And she's the only
one that seems to doubt the explanation of Clive and the subsequent
clarification by Rob-UK. The rest of us accept it.
You can also catch a glimpse of Mike Hewittson in Tantrums and Tiaras. He is,
supposedly, the guy that comes out with the sock selection when Elton is
getting dressed for the Oscars.
The person that told me this says Mike is "older than the rest of them", but
he's certainly not 90. Elton is just having fun with the age thing. I dont'
think we can take it literally, as Rob, Jack and others have said.
And I think we have beaten this horse to death. What about you?

i don't know mike or dennis, but i remember that it was the same
guy who took the presents and gave elton the pen for autographs in
germany. i saw it in munich, where the pen a fan gave to elton for
signing didn't work and he asked that man on the stage for a pen.

Shandy - I agree this horse is now completely flogged! LOL!! But I will just
put a final point that Clive told me Mike Hewittson was 'older than us'' -
meaning he was older than Elton, Clive &c., So my guess is that me must be
about 60 or so.

I know of the guy that stands in the wings on stage - no way is he anything
like 60 - he could be 40 - just! - So I don't think this is Mike Hewittson.
Interestingly, there is also another guy I've seen a UK shows who MUST be
the TWIN brother of the guy off stage - they are both identical!

Oh so now there are TWO Mike Hewitsons!!?? LOL!!

Rob, I think you were seeing the same guy twice! I saw the same
bodyguard standing in front and to the left of the stage, and later on,
in the wings, who caught Elton's pen. I think he stands in front of the
stage during most of the show, and then goes onstage when Elton is
signing autographs and singing his encores.

According to Hercules Fan club, Mike Hewitson is about 40 years old.
(perhaps they're father and son?)

Whatever......I think Elton should either change Mike's "nickname" to
say, Glenda, or stop sending "cryptic messages" to him, in public!;-)

Brenda

Maybe it's just the effects of antihistimines and too much sun, but I
really like that job title: 'keeper of the sharpie'. He should print that
on his business cards... ;-)

Just had a thought! (ding!)
Just because Elton says he doesn't remember meeting someone called
"Brenda" at his rehearsals, in 1975, doesn't mean that he can't remember
me being there! (I was a nameless guest) but he certainly knows my name
now!! (and is probably sick of it!;-)

At least he never stopped smiling at me, two weeks ago, when I was in
front of him, at the stage!! (even seemed to want to shake my hand!:-)

No....Elton's not upset with me! No matter what Clive or others seem to
think.
(Probably would like me to stop preaching though!)

I was once a face without a name, then a name without a face, and now
they all know who I am!

Brenda
(aka Harmony:-)

What I just wrote was in response to what Rob wrote recently:
---
Clive was pleased that his post about ''Brenda'' (as most of us will
have read) appeared to clarify once and for all Eltons position on
'Brenda' and served to calm things down. Personally I think it did the
trick nicely!

Just to remind us all - Neither Elton John himself - nor Clive Franks,
nor anyone associated with the organisation can remember anyone actually
called 'Brenda' from their past.

Ok Nan... then fucking let it die for crissakes. You are the only one who
keeps bring it up. Get over it. Nobody remembers you, case closed.

For whose sake!?? Christ's?
(I'll have to meditate on that one!;-)

Jack, This revived interest in Elton mentioning the name "Brenda" was
brought about by some new information about this Mike Hewitson, who, we
were told, Elton nicknamed, "Brenda". Especially having now seen his
photo, and recognising him at the concert last week. I, for one, happen
to be quite interested.
O.K?
NOW we know who Elton is referring to!

Nevertheless, it doesn't mean that Elton doesn't remember me, though.
He just doesn't recall my "name".

Still, that's O.K. ~ because ~ I am NOT my name!
(it's only an ID given to label one of 10 children:-)

So what, if no one remembers it? that doesn't matter. It's not
important.
The memories of my "Being" (looks, vibes, personality, aura, etc) are
recorded, in those who had any kind of contact with me. (mostly Ray,
Elton and Roger Pope:-)

I will say again ~ It's understandable that Elton doesn't recall anyone
called "Brenda" from his past, 'COS I NEVER TOLD HIM MY NAME ~ but
please don't assume that this means Elton and Ray don't remember me,
because I know they do! (even if it's subconscious)
They just didn't know, or remember my name, that's all.

End of story!

Brenda

P.S. They will remember one day! because it has been proven that every
second of our lives is recorded in our subconscious minds and souls. So
when we die and our "life is passed before our (minds) eye" we shall
"remember everything, as if it were yesterday":-)

"Oh happy day!" for those with good memories ~ especially if all bad
actions have been forgiven:-)
