Just finished reading the Belgariad for about the 20th time

20th time. Some how this group has escaped me, but I am glad I just
discovered it. The Belgariad seems to be my favorite story, and I often
revisit them.
I was in high school when the first 4 books of the Mallorean were
written, and I must say at that time I wasn't very fond of them. I was
in college when the 5th book was released, and I must admidt I have
never read it.
I have starting reading the Malloreon again, and just started the 3rd
book last night. It seems much better to me this time (probably due to
the fact that I do not have to wait a year or so between books), than
when I was back in high school in the late 80's.
I have stayed current with the Edding's books. I picked them up from
time to time from the store, brought them home, but never actually read
any of his (their) work since the 4th Maloreon book.
I have made a point to myself to finish the Mallorean, then move on to
Belgarath, Polgara, and The Codex.
I scored The High Hunt this past summer from a library book sale, and
that will be next.
I see that most agree on this list that thhe most recent books stink,
but I will probably have to find that out for myself.
Now, off to Mel Zeth.....

Do you like the Elenium/Tamuli? I can heartily recommend adding them
to your list.

And if you can find a copy of "The Losers" it is worth a read. IMHO
his best 'non-'fantasy.

Like the Mallorean, I read the first book when it was put on paperback,
but never finished them. I do plan on reading them though soon.

So I finally finished The Mallorean for the first time this past
weekend. I thought the ending was a tad long, and at first I wasn't
sure if I liked how it ended. The more I thought about it though, I
think the ending is proper. I will difenatley be rereading these books
again.
I have just started Belgarath, and so far I am liking it.

IMO it's the better of the two (and doesn't rely on anything before
it). It would be interesting to see if it gives you a different view
on the characters than the rest of us.
It ends better (again, IMO) simply because there's less sign of
Eddings getting carried away with himself.

I really enjoyed the book. It kind of fills a lot of the holes left
by the original 2 series about the pre-belgaraid world.
It didn't seem to drag on & on like I thought it might have, and I was a
little bumbed when it ended. I will definitely be reading it again
someday. I just wonder if I should read it first, the the Belgariad....
I have a brand spanking new copy of Polgara, that I will be starting
soon (hopefully this evening, or in the next couple days). I'll let you
all know how I feel about it.

Sounds like you've got something turned around there. The Belgariad
was the original series; there aren't any about the pre-BElgariad
world (unless you mean the Belgarath and Polgara books, which were
written later).

I was referring to Belgarath. As the subject indicates, I have read the
Belgariad around 20 times since it first came out. I only just finished
the Mallorean & Belgarath for the first time though.

I'm only about 100 pages into Polgara, and so far I am having a hard
time getting into it. That might change though.

I finished reading Polgara last week. I can't say that i liked it as
much as Belgarath, but I did enjoy it. At times it seemed redundant,
but I guess that is how it goes.
So, I have read the Belgariad about 20 times, and the Malorian,
Belgarath, and Polgara only once. I have a copy of the Rivian Codex,
but I have not started that yet.
I started reading Pawn of Prophecy again. I guess I'm not ready to
start the other series as of yet. I have heard from so many that they
really stink, but I will have to find that out for myself soon. For
now, I am happy with the books I have read, and I am content with that.

The Elenium is certainly worth reading, although the style is different
and I know a fair number of people who like one but not t'other. You
might as well read the Tamuli if you've read the Elenium, although it's
there that the rot starts for me. Anything written afterwards isn't
worth getting out of the library.
