Well Shai-Halud I got from the movie, and the rest is pretty much
educated guess. I have some Arabic friends at school, and I've learned a
few things from them. But of course I may not be totally right...

Hehe, good question. Add to that how to pronounce K.H. (Kwisats Hederach or
something, sorry, I don't remember how to spell it :) ), Bene Gesserit, Bene
Tlielaxu, Ix (Do you pronounce is as ee-x, x, or i-x, or just nine :) ),
seitch, crysknife, etc.

K.H.= quiz-sats had-errock
Bene Gesserit= benny gezz-errit
Bene Tlielaxu=This I've heard 2 ways: benny twii-lacks-uu or bennt twii-lack
Ix= icks, I remember some where in the series, some one mentions that no one
remembers it stands for 9, because of it being the ninth planet of something, so
it's just icks.
Seitch= see-ch
Crysknife= kris-knife, also I've heard it kries-knife

Like I said before, mine may not be totally accurate, that's the way I've been
pronouncing them and the way I've heard them...

You know, I remember there being a site somewhere that had FH himself
prounouncing many of the more difficult words. There was also a .wav file
of him reading the first 2 chapters of HoD. If i can find it again I'll
post it. I found it veery interesting to hear the man himself read his
writings...

A .wav of FH reading two chapters of a book?
How big is this wav? I'm hoping there's a real audio version.
If it happens to be in .wav format, do NOT use the Media Player that comes
with Windows95 to play the file.
For some reason, Mplayer has to load the the WHOLE file into RAM first before
execution. I don't think there's
a computer in the world with that much RAM.

The Fremen tongue has obvious Arabic derivations, while some of the
other terminology is Latin based, so I'd suggest the best guide is to
stick with those pronunciations. Trying to write a pronunciation as text
of course depends on your own accent and how you pronounce English :)

I find the film pronunciations to be largely acceptable.

For my US$0.02...

Shai-Hulud = shy-hoo-lude (it's in the film)
Bi-La Kaifa = Bee-lah-kye-fah
Naib = Nye-eeb

Ix (icks) and Bene Gesserit (Ben-eh-jess-err-it) are also in the film.

Well, it's not totally Arabic. Do you remember, in Dune, there is a
song Fremen sing which it has two words in it, trava, and korenia. These
words are also present in Russian (yes, I speak Russian :) ), and they too,
mean grass and roots, respectively (If you can find this song and post it,
that'd be great. I'll try to translate as much as I can). They are
probably present is other Slavic languages. I'm not sure, since I don't
speak Arabic, but it also possible that Arabic and Russian both have them
(although, it's a bit of a stretch, since these languages are very
different).

BTW, the Fremen language is called Chacobsa, is I'm not mistaken. These
are mine 5 copecks (that's Russian idiom for 2 cents).

If you would like, I could convert it in MPEG3 audio format. It'll
have at least 12:1 compression without any sound quality loss.

Dear Aleksey:

Well, the song is the beginning of a Fremen funeral chant, and goes:

"Ima trava okolo!
I korenja okolo!"

Jessica translates this as "These are ashes! And these are roots!", though
I suppose by your translation it should have been "This is grass! And these
are roots!"

Bye!

Hello.

Okolo actually means by, close, near, around, about. I (not me :) ,
"i") means and, and it is pronounced not as 'i", but as "ee". The same way
you'd write the name of a town called Minsk, it's pronounced as Meensk. As
for Ima, I don't know what that means. I'll try to ask some of my Polish
friends, maybe the word is present in Polish (I think Chacobsa is kinda of a
mix of languages of the "primitive" Terra).
