So, my edition (ISBN 0-450-01184-4) of Dune, which is the Oct 1984 NEL (UK)
tie-in edition has Piter's name as "Piter de Vried", among *numerous* other
typos. Some of the typos seem to originate in the American movie tie-in
edition.

I read an old post here on afd that there are editions where Piter's name
is correctly spelled. Hopefully, the number of other errors is also
reduced. Can anyone point me to one?

(First read Dune in 1988 before heading off to college. Just re-reading
it now, after I watched the SciFi miniseries on DVD. Kull wahad! I love
this book!)

I noticed this de Vried-error too in that edition too, but when comparing i to
the Dutch version, the typos are not irritating. The Dutch version has much
more typo's.

I recently read a German version of "Hyperion" which had many typos that
looked like they've been produced by an ocr system. Wonder where and why
they use and ocr? Did the translator use an old-fashioned type-writer?
Did they have to scan an older edition?

There is a Devries Avenue and a Devries Park in Sleepy Hollow, New York. I
discovered this driving through Sleepy Hollow yesterday and it caught my
attention. There is also a Gurnee Lane (spelling, yeah, I know) right near
my house.

I went to a Dominican Republic resort this summer and when I emailed them,
the chick who answered was named Caren De Vries.

What was Mark's message about? It came through all scrambled. Maybe he
used salted encryption?

I beg to differ. I've known some Vogon poultry that'll curdle your yolks:
I ovoid it if at all possible.

Some Dutch lessons.

When it freezes outside we say: Het vriest.

We got a district which is called Friesland (just 1 letter), the people there
are called Friezen.

We got someone in our parliament who is called de Vries.

de Vries is one of the most normal names in Holland.

When i was a kid, my doctor was called Dr Peter De Vries. He was a
homeopathic specialist or something, i think he's famous now, writes books
on it. Just a random thought :)
