In the movie version of "Dune" Karl Malden is clearly seen along side
Jose Ferrer's (sp?) Shaddam IV (he's the bloke with the Tyco Brahe nose
job, but silver instead of gold). Was he meant to play a significant
role in the film such as Count Fenring?

I don't think that was him...also I don't recall his name in the
credits.

Look at the tape... I did it just this week. One of Shaddam's right
hand men, the one with the metal nose is his spitting image if not the
real thing.

I know the guy you're talking about! I don't think he's Karl Malden,
though. If I remember correctly, didn't the same actor play in "V" that
television show about space reptiles that conquer Earth? I also think
he's had guest spots on Seinfeld as George's boss at the Yankees. He's a
dead ringer for Malden- assuming I'm talking about the right guy. ;-)

I doubt that it was Karl Malden.

But on a related note - is it just me, or has anyone else noticed two
people who look exacly like Michael Bolton and Mickey Rourke dressed as
Fremen during the final fight seen between Paul and Feyd? Uncredited
cameos, maybe?

Well, I didn't say it was actually them. But I'm telling you there are two
Fremen who look exactly like them. :)

Hey Josh--are you a Dune-movie *fanatic*? Do you have it on disc? Do you
have the wide-screen import? Ever rent it, if not?

My fellow fanatics have identified Michael Bolton--he plays the drums before
Paul and Feyd fight--as well as Spaulding Gray, who tries to cut the obelisk.
I forget what his Fremen name is. Cheech Marin, Buffy 'n' Jody (from Family
Affair)--I'm sure there are others....

Where's Mickey?

Anyone spot Pia Zadora as a reverend mother?

Saint Pia-of-the-Knife, perhaps? She does have a certain...abominability.

The fremen who trys to cut the obelisk (Korba?) looks a *little* like
Spaulding Gray, through the bottom of a beer bottle. The guy who hits, kicks,
and yells at the obelisk, and later says, "Usul no longer needs the weirding
module!" kinda sorta looks like a hairy (well, extra-hairy), stillsuited Tommy
Chong (not Cheech; my apologies). One of Jamis' kids, who follow Paul through
much of the film, looks a lot like Jody (the boy, right? Should I cross-post
to alt.fan.family-affair for confirmation?) of Buffy-and-Jody fame.

I didn't mean to attribute these views to anyone but myself and certain
unnamed beer-swilling fanatics.

Now Mr French, he would look good in a stillsuit...
