*flies back in, and takes a look around*
Hey, everyone!
After a bit of a drought, I finally rediscovered this little program on
my laptop called Pan... And then I remembered... Here be dragons!
Unfortunately, a bunch of my settings had to be lost, and I had to end up
switching to a new usenet provider, as my reader.motzarella apparently
shut down...

So, Here i am, via Giganews, and with more experience, self discovery, a
job I've fallen in love with, and a girl i've fallen in love with (And
yes, she knows of me as a dragon, and she loves that part of me too ^_^)

I'm working as a Web Technician (I build websites, maintain them,
maintenance servers, and so forth)

Oh, and I made you all something...

*Offers 3 of his mother's amazing Choklit Cheesecakes*
Enjoy!
^_^

Motzarella.org didn't shut down, it just changed to a new domain "for
various technical reasons". It's now Eternal-September.org. Your account
should still be valid there.

Sounds like life's been good to you recently.

*facepalms*
Stupid me, I forgot to do research...
Now i've got a giganews account! Oh, well, what can ya do, right?

At least giganews seems to be friendly enough for me, plus I notice that
it behaves a lot better with my newsreader (If pan was running too long w/
o connections on motz, i'd have to restart it... very annoying with the
thousands of messages i've got stored up!)
Now I've no issues with connecting :P

I guess you get what you pay for, right?

*Flaps his wings* So, did I miss much?

*The Fledgling becomes interested* I was just over a year old in Sept
1993. Did something happen then?

AOL gave its users Usenet access, and flooded the internet--as it was at
the time--with noobs, which prior, only filled the colleges' usenet in
September, by October things quieted down as all the freshmen learned
nettiquette. But with a constant influx of new users, "September" never
ended.

Nice find, but I prefer The Jargon File's version, especially as
Wikipedia took the definition from it ;)

September that never ended

All time since September 1993. One of the seasonal rhythms of the
Usenet used to be the annual September influx of clueless newbies who,
lacking any sense of netiquette, made a general nuisance of themselves.
This coincided with people starting college, getting their first internet
accounts, and plunging in without bothering to learn what was acceptable.
These relatively small drafts of newbies could be assimilated within a
few months. But in September 1993, AOL users became able to post to
Usenet, nearly overwhelming the old-timers' capacity to acculturate them;
to those who nostalgically recall the period before, this triggered an
inexorable decline in the quality of discussions on newsgroups. Syn.
eternal September. See also AOL!.
